That's why you want to have a bag with some supplies in your vehicle!
If I'm at work, I'm set. And when I'm just out and about I've usually got the essentials to get home. (Water, gun, etc.) It's the others in my family that stay woefully unprepared that worry me.
Make up a bag for each vehicle, then explain/teach them what everything is used for.
