Water Mocosins and Cottonmouths are common.

Some non-venomous species would be large enough to take an egg but not a full bird.

Chicks have to be protected from raccoons, skunks (also like eggs), weasels, snakes, cats.

We collect our eggs daily and have a mobile coop so it's a difficult (and fatal) proposition for a snake.

Well typing on this iPhone is wearing me out so I'm hitting the rack.

I saw the fence, so I know the four-legged predators are kept away.

I've seen hawks snatch pigeons up pretty easily around here. In California we actually had a few occasions where an eagle took a chicken.

Coyotes were our biggest problem

I really enjoyed this rather old topic - found it searching for advice in general bushcraft books. I own the newest version of the SAS survival guide. And besides the medical chapte (being a firefighter/paramedic) I do belive it´s quite usefull!
