Well WE didn't wear toga's, but otherwise it was close. Maybe that's why I got put on academic suspension for a semester and ultimately wound up in the Air Force for 20 years.

Ray, it really wasn't all that bad even though I gripe and complain about it. It, just like any job, was made better or worse by those you worked for/with than the actual job.

Sides, where else can a college flunk out be responsible for millions of dollars of assets and hundreds of lives. Makes you rethink you decisions quite a bit at times.

Being highly educated doesn't necessarily make one competent to make decisions. Look at all the highly educated people in government who make poor choices.

Haha, Yeah I hear ya Ray. ONE of the things I respected from the OIC I had in Japan was because of a statement he made to the Navy once when he answered the phone. It went roughly: I can't answer that question, I just run the place. Let me get you one of the SOO's for you. (Senior Operations Officrs). That's what they called the HHIC Head Honcho In Charge)  of each shift. Me, I was an E6 filling a MINIMUM Majors slot. I felt VERY fortunate and because I filled three different functions there I was the Navy's go to guy quite a lot. Heck one year, I had to agree to work for a week while I was on leave (while in HAWAII)! It worked out OK though, when I got back the Colonel cut my charged leave from 4 weeks to three. I REALLY liked my job in Japan.

My cousin's husband is a Navy helicopter pilot. He has served two tours in Japan and the entire family, including the kids, loved being there.

Well Shazbat! A thread I started was so full of lies and bad information that I deleted it. BUT....
Lee Marvin WAS a marine but "ONLY" got the Purple Heart.
Captain Kangaroo WAS a Marine but never saw combat.
Mr. Rogers WAS NOT a navy Seal.
