I had a big collection of them. We spent over $7000 building a fence around our farm, plus another $3300 on plants (fruit trees, brambles, vines, etc...all organic), plus another $1000 on setting up a small organic vineyard, plus another $1000++ on a mobile chicken coop, plus $700+ for a DRT tiller, plus $400+ for a chain saw, etc etc etc.
ORGANIC FARMING IS NOT CHEAP.
Anyway, I sold:
(1) DSA SA58 16" Fixed (2) DSA SA58 16" Para (2) DSA SA58 18" Fixed (3) DSA SA58 18" Para (2) DSA SA58 21" G1 Collectors (1) Imbel 21" (100% Imbel except for the 922r parts)
SOLD ALL OF THESE ^^^^ TO BUY THE SPRINGFIELDS BELOW
________________________________________________________
(1) Springfield Armory SAR48 18" Bush Preban (2) Springfield Armory SAR-4800 18" Bush Postban (2) Springfield Armory SAR-4800 21" Postban
SOLD ALL OF THESE ^^^^ TO PAY FOR FARM STUFF
...and it still wasn't enough to pay for farming stuff!
ETA: I didn't have all of these at one time. I sold all of the DSAs and Imbels and used that money to buy the Springfield Armory rifles. The line above shows what I had originally, and then what I bought and had to sell to fund the farm.

Nice collection you had there mate... very very nice. I think for so long the Springfields (well Imbels ) were the most underrated FAL types out there...!!! Now I think it is the Argie factory rifles, but that too has changed.

Now I think it is the Argie factory rifles, but that too has changed. Thanks! It took quite a while to accumulate all of the DSA and that Imbel. I was buying the SAR's (which are Imbels) as I sold the DSAs. I have to say - the difference in quality was obvious. I always wanted to try an original Inch pattern gun, but only owned one cobbled together by Century Arms. It was a turd. Original INCH pattern rifles haven't really been available here. There are a few from Oz floating around though. I saw one sell for $6,700 last year! I too like the Argentinian rifles. Factory built Imbels and Argies are my choice in a FAL unless someone wants to trade an original Type I Forged Herstal 50.00 for one of my SAR48's . I wouldn't trade my Springfield (Imbel) for a Type III Cast Herstal...

Another FAL comment...
I no longer recommend Para models. The rat tail being captive in the top cover is a recipe for disaster. Its just not a durable design, and was clearly an engineering solution "after the fact".
I'm down to my Springfield SAR-48s and SCAR17. If I had to choose one to keep it would be the SCAR unless I knew an apocalypse of Biblical proportions was about to happen...then I'd choose the FAL.

Gary, after seeing the pics you've posted of the FALs you've sold I could totally hear you saying to me "I've forgotten more about FALs than you'll ever know, newbie." A couple of current pics. The Vanden Berg Custom muzzle brake. I had a chance to shoot it last week, and as Ed promised this thing now has recoil almost as tame as an AR15. It is an absolute pleasure to shoot. I moved over and let my buddy shoot it, and that's when it felt like a small flash-bang went off nearby. It is incredibly loud. I could feel the sting all over my body every time he pulled the trigger. The guy 6 lanes down was becoming irritated with us, but then he wanted to shoot it. Anyway, that mb doesn't even scratch the surface of the things Ed Vanden Berg is capable of doing to a firearm. I look forward to giving him more business in the future. I plan to upgrade the furniture next.

That is good looking work Spidy !!!!! GD, the FAL as it has proven that 50yrs on it will still be around and working as well as the day it left the factory. Spares are easier to accumulate and just about any knuckle dragger can replace almost any part. You only need to be a little more able to do the rest and have a function (if perhaps not pretty) rife. And of course your chest is a little more hairy, you voice a little deeper and your gear swings around with just that much more authority when you have a FAL, even moreso if you have the Manliest Man variety...

The only part on a SCAR that is more robust than the same parts on a FAL is the bolt carrier. The bolt carrier on the SCAR is a MASSIVE chunk of steel. Otherwise, everything on the FAL is more robust and constructed of more durable materials. The trade for this perceived increase in durability is: accuracy, weight, adjustable side folding stock, better sights, ease of optics mounting, reciprocating charging handle that works as a forward assist, better ergonomics, ambidextrous controls, faster mag changes, longer barrel life (15k vs 45k), etc.
I also prefer the non-adjustable "switch block" gas system of teh SCAR. The adjustable gas is a novel idea, but if you tune it too much it becomes ammo sensitive. The Scar, however, is overgassed by design so weak ammo isn't a problem.
NINJA EDIT: Both are easy to work on. I can completely build the FAL's lower quicker than the SCAR's, but only buy a couple of minutes. Otherwise, there isn't much to work on with either design. The "locking shoulder" nonsense is problematic in the FAL whereas the SCAR uses the AR15 headspace principle.
