OK Gary, here we go.
I carry the Emerson Karambit because I am really NOT sure what would happen If I shot someone at work. JUST because they are trying to escape does not mean you can automatically shoot them. With a knife I could claim I TRIED to not use deadly force but when they are within arms reach the tide turns. I think that most reasonable (around here) folks (Jurors) would accept that.

A SECOND folder, cause I don't want folks (potential bad guys) to know I have a "Defensive folder and the will to use it if need be".

The "Bushcraft" blade(s) even though I'm not "Bushy" I do upon occasion have a need for a blade like this, all the way up to a big Ole Choppa!

Whenever I am out in the woods, which isn't really all that much, I usually carry the Wardog, mainly because I like the sheath I have for it better than the one for the S5. The Bigger blades USUALLY stay in the truck until needed.

I find myself trying to create "uses" to justify adding (or keeping) knives. In reality, how many of us routinely carry a fixed blade on our person? I do, everyday, that I'm not working at my regular job. However, at my regular job its a folder and possibly Warden (which barely qualifies as a fixed blade). I keep a 4 to 10" fixed blade in my commuter bag (as a "just in case" measure).

Randy, This is a great dissertation on the knives you actually need. Like you, I have WAY more than is practical. Adam is always searching for the perfect knife. I'm very guilty of this too. Unfortunately, I'm often reluctant to sell the "old" knife when a "new" option presents itself. My wife talks about "chicken math". Chicken math is a homesteader term for how people set out to have a few birds to provide fresh eggs for the table, but they end up finding that they keep adding birds (because they want to try different breeds, increase egg production, try culling for meat, etc). I think I have a case of "knife math".

Bare Bones Blades
 1. Chris Reeve Small Sebenza (mine has Black Micarta inlays)
 2. 411, S5 or Wardog, TOUGH decision that would require a lot of thinking, with a nod going to the Wardog because of it's ease of maintenance.
 3. My pumpkin/black BWM. Nice Size, not to heavy and again, ease of maintenance.

My bare bones would be:
 1) Swamp Warden
 2) NMSFNO

One detail and one everything else.

Gary, I think that most of us here have a VERY bad case of "Knife Math". Oh and I too am always questing for the "Perfect" knife. I've never found it in 60 1/2 years of life.

Here's my 2 knife list:
 Folder: Spyderco Stretch.
Fixed: My lightweight RMD as soon as I get it back.

 3 knife setup:

 Folder: Stretch
 Small fixed: Vex
Large fixed: 911, if I had one. Maybe is should do something about that.

IF I was gonna to or have to stick to just two, it would probably still be my Small Sebbie and the Tali-whacker. The only 7 inch range blade that I have that isn't at least .331 inch thick.

I've preached the "trifecta" for a lot of years, and honestly believe its gospel.
 FOLDER
GENERAL PURPOSE (4-5" fixed or 5-6" fixed depending on your vocation / lifestyle)
 CHOPPER (9-11" fixed)

And I guess I COULD substitute the Umnumzaan for the Small sebbie, but to me the sebbie is SO much almost Perfect.
