Depending on where/how far you hike, yeah the "Necessities" would be different.

I will probably be taking out some more stuff out of my pack, but It will also be used as a GHB if need be, so I might well leave most of the stuff there and or change things up as the need changes.

my current bag is the ILBE ASSAULT PACK
So it is just a big bag
I pack everything in zip lock bags so it is easy to organize
PLUS it makes it easy to change up
Example
I have two different first aid kits, each in its own bag, depending on where I am going I can take the larger or smaller kit
I added a small pouch on the outside of the pack which has my multi tool, Gps ect

Yeah, winter conditions will most assuredly make a difference in what you would need. For me, I would only need be concerned from between home and work.

During the fall and winter I keep an overnight kit in my vehicle

I had my FAK in a bag but just put the stuff in the upper outside pouch of the Pack. I might do the two FAK thing and just put pouch needed in the main compartment. I also am thinking about taking out at least one of the All Weather SOL Blankets. I COULD take them both out and just leave them in the truck and pack the up as needed. Hey, that's an Idea. Thanks Bill!

Well My plan is to keep this bag with me. In the summer I will just leave it in the truck. In the winter I'll take it in the house when I'm home or in the office while at work. Don't want to take a chance of anything freezing.
