It's the reissue. Tom picked it up for me last year.

Only whacked a couple small limbs with it but it sure worked as advertised!

I need to go out and play with my 711 now as well and the S6 when it arrives.

BUT since the Wilderness Survival thread got started I've been thinking about The ASH series. I think a .187 or better yet (by popular consensus) a .22 thick one would be really nice. But I would have to get rid of some knives to swing something that expensive.

the funny thing about that sheath is that I ordered just the plain Jane model (that's what I paid for)
Shortly after I ordered the sheath Rainwalker wife took ill
I knew that he would have trouble keeping up so I emailed him and told him that I was in no rush and to put my order at the back of the line
I did it a few times over a few.months, and made sure that he knew I was in no rush

When he caught up he sent me that sheath with all the extra work as a thankyou
It is my favorite sheath

The more I look At the ASH blades the more I like them. When I was in the Philippines our main Kitchen knife had a blade about 8 inches long and by the handle it was maybe 4-5 inches from spine to edge. It worked surprisingly well for a number of things and don't see why a wider blade wouldn't work "Out there" as well.

I am different than most of the dogs
I think a 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick blade in 4 or 5 inches is all that is needed in a survival knife

Yeah, I figured if nothing else It can be added to my collection. This was before I knew I was getting a 711 that arrived as a surprise package in the mail. I THINK it was a gift as there was no note or anything in the box with it but I am sending that Dog back a knife as a way of thanks.

For the most part I agree with you Bill. Matter of fact In my knife for the Wilderness Survival thread that is what I specified. But I really would like something a tad larger and I found this S6 for sale and said Hmmm.... I contacted the seller and a deal was made.

When I "Designed" my survival blade I was thinking it was gonna be for a Hiking/ got lost blah blah blah for no more than a couple weeks.

THEN some other folks started talking about it being a LONG TIME survival blade and then the requirements changed for me.
