Not that I think they're worried about becoming known as a budget knife manufacturer. I just think they've decided that the Ratweiler is the 7 inch SR101 knife they want to sell.

I'm 100% willing to spend until it hurts to have what I feel is the best. However, determining what is the best now has a cost implication for me.

Adam, I can see your point. However, a basic Scrap Yard is still more money than an equivalent ESEE with sheath, clip plate, and UNCONDITIONAL warranty. I think the BKG has carved a safe niche as a bombproof premium knife maker, but I see other brands starting to challenge them due to the increasing price points. I had brand new ASHBMs, BATACs, and others listed on the X at below factory cost + free shipping and didn't' get a single inquiry. In fact, my last thread was deleted and I was given a warning (I did accidentally violate a repost rule, but it also left me wondering if it upset people selling for cost + 20%...)

I'm in a period of ambivalent feelings toward my knife selections. This has created a scenario where I'm no longer entirely (kool-aid level) brand loyal. This isn't to take anything away from any of the quality manufacturers including BKG. I'm simply clarifying why I often seem critical. I'm just at a point where I'm not satisfied with "good enough" when "good enough" costs more than enough to be "perfect".

ETA: Yes, I should be the person who defines "perfect". grin smirk laugh

I'm at the point where I'm tired of settling.

I came very close to ordering a WKII Hunting Knife, but I realized I can get a custom hand forged knife from Gerry Drew for $225 LESS than the cost of the stock removal WKII Hunting Knife. 52100 steel and curly maple scales. The knife isn't "perfect" so I will have to keep an eye on his future offerings in hopes he will have something with a wider blade like I prefer. Unfortunately, he doesn't take custom orders. He says he's been burned too many times.

For those that are interested, he has one for sale in the exchange right now. Hand forged, tapered tang, and beautiful curly maple scales. A lot of work went into that knife, and I can't believe the price on it.

It goes without saying that I will also be watching BKG's future offerings in hopes of seeing my "perfect" knife.

I'll be the contrarian...I'm trying to settle. I've had plenty of great blades, a closetful of blades and got a little tired of my search for a perfect knife. Went back to one of my classics the Howling Rat with a few others and am trying to remain content!

I can't speak for him with any certainty, but I think he might be waiting for a few stragglers to arrive. I'm sure he'll have to mark a few days on the calendar, too. With their schedule it must be tough to find time for such an undertaking.
