I get a chuckle every time I think of a M16 or M4 with a dinky bayonet on a dinky rifle. But the Springfield '03 with its 16" bayonet was a formidable weapon.

Formidable indeed Ray. The Japanese Arisaka rifles with their bayonets were nasty also. eek I still have the rifle bayonet, and Nambu pistol my Dad brought home from WWII.

My uncle brought back an Arisaka with the Chrysanthemum still on it. He served in the Pacific Theater. I used to have a Krag and a bayonet for it. That combo was long also.

My M91-30 Sniper with bayonet attached comes up to my forehead... if you run out of ammo, in a pinch it can be used as a polearm.

A pike was sometimes 25' long. Now, that's a long weapon. Right, Tom? grin

I could have filled that tag this evening, but held off. I'm watching a NICE buck on the back side of my place and I hope to get him by Saturday evening when the season closes.

This is either sex week, and I've passed on quite a few. I killed a doe Monday morning just for some more meat, then killed a little spike about a half hour later. I've got a couple tags left, but not a lot more room in the freezer.

For sure! grin Remember the extra-long spears used against the heavy cavalry in Braveheart? They did the trick! wink

The only spear I have is a Cold Steel assegai with the six-foot shaft; still a wicked weapon! wink

I don't have any spears but I have been tempted to buy an assegai or a Japanese Naginata on occasion.
