Got a Trainee tonight. Strange for me but nice. Got to go down and jabber with the jailer, something we don't get to do normally.

Good snowy morning, everybody. A poor snowfall though, hardly even an inch.

Goooooooood morning Scrap Yard. Gloomy and overcast here, but relatively warm.

I have been busy learning how to use my new smartphone and downloading apps. I have resisted getting one until now but, golly, they are a lot of fun.

Yeah they are a blast! But I probably still wouldn't have one if the Stepson hadn't upgraded (deactivated) my old flip phone for the iPhone 5. I opted for the C model. He gave his Mom the S. The C was 50 bucks less and works just fine for me. (The C was my choice)

We have a web portal that has military apps ranging from land navigation to coordinated support fire. Yes, we are starting to use smart phones and tablets in war.

IIRC, I remember that the Army was using cell phones for communication on the battlefield during Iraq I or II. I saw pics of portable cell towers being used. Quite a difference from a PRC-6.

I saw one a few months ago for the iPad, comes with a magnetic mount for a 120mm Mortar. you slap the tablet onto the mortar lengthwise, and it uses GPS and the angle of the gravity sensor to direct call for fire... I think there's one that can remote control an MQ-8 in the event of controller failure as well.
