i'd like to see a non-coated scrapper howler. i like the crinkle coating, but for a slicer it can make things a bit sticky at times.

either way...

BRING ON THE SCRAPPER HOWLER!!!

Good point Bruce! However, I am not concerned with keeping up with the rest of the "family", let THEM follow OUR lead! Tom
Amen, Tom. Just call it what it is, a SY 4 Drop Point Hunter. We don't need no silly names like Soup Scrotum or badges or Badgers! This is the Scrapyard! SYK just makes stuff that works.

I like that the Yard version has such a small choil, leaving a little more cutting edge.

I hope it is not over 3/16" thick.
I'll be interested to see if Dan is willing make a thinner knife, Vic. (The SS4 was unique in more than one way. Not only was it made of INFI, it's the only knife Dan has produced that's under 1/4" thick.)...

Surely Dan can find some S-7 stock in 1/8" or 3/16" to transform into SR-77. A thin blade just slices better. The DM was overbuilt to be a combat knife. And I agree, an uncoated blade might be better. Or he could just make it in uncoated D2, if Jerry has some of that lying around.

+1 on the Howler. Good size on the choil too. I don't find myself choking up on 4" or less blades very often. I could even go for no choil.

PS: For those who may not be familiar, here's a pic of the current design of the Scrap Yard Howler:

[Linked Image from scrapyardknives.com]

Blade length will be ~4" and overall length will be ~9".

It looks mighty fine with the logo on it... pity!
To think that this might be even cheaper than the DM just gave a shiver up my spine... It's gonna be wild when It's "unleashed" !

Sticky...Hmmm... I've notice that when I whack the DF into wood the crinkle stuff on the coating get smooth-ed out, and the black stuff can be seen on the splinted wood. Do you guys notice this?

I don't know, Vic. Naming knives gives them character. After all, Dan could have called the Dog Father the SY 10 Full-on Chopper, but I think the name "Dog Father" has a lot more appeal, if you know what I mean.
Maybe so Bruce. Whatever he calls it, I want one. I want a knife like the HRLM with a Res C handle. He can call it the Howling Little Rat Killing Monster Terrier Pig Sticker (HLRKMTPS) for all I care. Just bring it!

There's definitely a difference of opinion on choils. But I agree with you, bwcaq. Either make one that's usable or don't include one at all.
I agree with that. If the HRLM has one flaw, it is the useless (for me) choil. As I have said before, Dan could make two versions, one with a usable choil and one with no choil. That should be no more costly or difficult than The Hook and the Guard were. I just hope the blade is no more than 3/16" thick. Heck, a 7" Ka-Bar is only about 1/8" thick.

My vote goes to a little choil HR (or whatever he's callin' it) makes sharpening easier and there a few other reasons.

I hope Eric at ON/SCENE gets some sheaths going for it fast.
