Yes, I think it is time for a 4" model. I hope SYK will sell it with a sheath. If not, I'll pass. All knives that require a sheath for carry should be sold with one that fits it properly. A nice little kydex would be perfect for a 4" knife, but a well made cordura or leather would be fine with me. The 4" to 5" blade knives are very useful. I hope it is not over 3/16" thick.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Amen brother, though I appreciate the custom leather & kydex sheaths I do not like spending 50% to the full price of the knife on a sheath unless it is safe queen. I have only 1 or 2 of those, the rest I use and cheap well fitting pants is all I need.

Yes, the Howler! Unless it's the DFLE... if so... step aside Howler!

At the very least, sheath options from makers could be offered on the SYK website as Swamp Rat does. That might be easier for SYK than trying to get a sheath manufacturer to tool up for a relatively small production number. I love my Swamp Rat HRLM. I got a fine leather sheath from Armoralleather with it. Since then, I got one of Dave's excellent kydex sheaths for it. IMO, every knife should have some kind of sheath offered with it, even if it is just cordura, but not cardboard. Bring on the "Howler", but give it a respectable name, like Scrap Yard Hunter. Who ever heard of a howling rat? What does a drop point hunter have to do with little mischief? All that stuff just sounds silly to me.

Vic - maybe it should be called the "Growler"! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Oh yes. I am so committed to buying the DFLE, I have already ordered the sheath for mine! Some will disagree, but I would rather have a DFLE than a FBMLE or that other new fat one. The black Res C handle will look just fine contrasted with a 10" satin buffed blade. Bring it!

PS: For those who may not be familiar, here's a pic of the current design of the Scrap Yard Howler:

[Linked Image from scrapyardknives.com]

Blade length will be ~4" and overall length will be ~9".

I'll take two, with sheaths, please.

Good point Bruce! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> However, I am not concerned with keeping up with the rest of the "family", let THEM follow OUR lead! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Tom
