NOW they're saying we could get 8 to 10 inches of snow and a significant amount of sleet but not much actual "Freezing" ice/rain.

The soil around our house is about 2-3 ft of sand covered/mixed with just the leaf and grass cuttings from the last 45 years. So it doesn't grow stuff very well. Patty is thinking of getting bags of potting soil, cutting them open on top of the ground and planting some onions, lettuce, and trying tomatoes.

I guess so! laugh

You guys might try container gardening; easy to grow a few items like tomatoes, peppers, and even potatoes. Last year we grew potatoes in 50# dog food bags!

I was able to get some tubs similar to mineral lick-tubs many cattlemen use; they make great containers for gardening filled up with composted soil! smile

That's kinda what Patty saw somewhere. You I guess make some drainage holes in the bottom of the bags. Then you slit the top almost completely open, leaving just the sides and plant your stuff in there and that will help keep moisture and still(If needed) allow the roots to somewhat grow down into the ground instead of just the plastic bag.
