There is an interesting review of this one at the Swamp. The author favored his $80 Becker Bk9 over it based upon the performance.
The 0.280" thickness is a hard stop for me. I posted a couple of days ago that I like SR77 for big choppers (ironic, huh) but it doesn't need to be that thick. In fact, having tested over a half dozen Busse/kin choppers....the thickness can hurt it's performance.
For non users these giant knives are fun to own, take pictures of, etc.
For those of us that actually want to use, carry or otherwise depend on our knives....we have enough Crocodile Dundee options now. How about some practical detail knives?
When is the last time you chopped down a tree with a knife? When is the last time you needed to open a package, cut up fruit, etc?
Maybe I'm doing knives wrong.

To each their own I guess. The blade thickness puts it in the Fusion Battle Mistress range I believe, but I agree with you. That is the reason I prefer the 13-11 over the thicker 11-11; the thinner blade is actually the better chopper.

Yeah....not sure I'll be able to afford it. If I can come close, I might be able to squeeze it in as a birthday present Last time I chopped down a tree? Been a while, but only a week or two since chopping UP a tree Point taken, though, Architect. Much as I LOVE choppers I find I use them less than other blades. But when you need them for a specific job, nothing else can really replace them. Truth is, I have all the blades I NEED...but it would be nice to have enough that someday, I can pass each kid a nice small, medium, and large blade, or possibly give a few to the grandkids (assuming there's people out there willing to marry my kids and procreate with them when they are adults ).

And I do LOVE my 1311, although I never felt the CGDF was less adequate. My 10" Ranger 9 (made by Justin from a Busse blank) is a chopping machine--probably easier to tear through wood than the DF precisely for the reason you state. It's still friggin thick at the spine, but it is FFG, and therefore much lighter than the DF. I still love them all!

Dan said his next knife would be long and thin...I hope so. The thickness and WEIGHT is whats stopping me. The machete looking protos appealed to me a lot more. My most used blades are my 1311 and hrlm. I don't even use my cgDF anymore. Dan an 8-10" blade about .20 thick max would be Great! MM I really think those new handles look really comfy though

At this point I'm gonna have to pass too. I've got 3 NMFBM's, 2 ASHBM's, an 1111, and a 1311. I'm really more interested in what Dan has been working on... A true Yard machete kind of blade, at a Yard price. The waiting continues...

I don't have the desire for anymore sharpened prybars

DT, I agree that when you need to chop a small knife isn't as useful as an axe...uh I mean sharpened pry bar .... Just giving you a hard time.
I'm with coyotebc (Bill I believe ?) - I'm grumpy because there aren't many Busse/kin knives in the 4" range which is what I've found to be most useful. When they do make one it's 3/16" or better. I'd much prefer a 1/8" FFG.
I also have enough choppers. In fact, I have more than enough (and don't really USE what I have).
I too like to try and enjoy new knives but I actually use / need some good options in the 4" size category. Do you all remember my 17 bushcraft eval? That was a worthwhile exercise. It showed that Busse/kin hold their edge but are mostly too thick.
I don't want to have to go to Bark River Or Fallkniven for my needs but at this point I don't see an alternative.
I'd like to see a SR101 FFG 1/8" Yardkeeper with a slightly longer "basic handle". The YKCG was an immensely useful design.
ETA: I don't think any knife in the 5+" range is going to better the RMD unless it's a FFG RMD with convex.

A yard machete might be of interest to me, because I don't have a tier-one machete and would actually use one on my property.

Bog Dog and Dog Skinner are great size an with their FFG drop point blades they make excellent utility knife, pity they're almost impossible to get.
As thick as MMD is, I think I'll pass on it... Unless I land some jobs before it's gone and get one for making sheaths on. I've got a multi carry sheath idea I'd like to try.
Looking forward to what Dan will bring next. And wish secretly that DSF in SR-101 will be offered as one of Battle Grade knives.
