I finally came around to putting up some pictures from my trip to Sarek, located in Arctic Sweden.

Sarek is an enormous wilderness area a few hundered miles above the Arctic Circle.

A buddy of mine and I went there from September 20th till September 28th.

The object of the trip was to walk through the area, and sleep out in the open.
At that time of the year, winter is just around the corner, and temperatures are low.
Our third night out the temperature was -8 F, which was somewhat colder than anticipated.
Therefore, we decided to aim for some emergency cabins, where we could spend some warmer nights.
These cabins are always open, so hikers can stay there, if needed.

During our 8 days up there we met other people twice. 2nd and 5th day. Otherwise it was complete solitude.
Pretty special feeling.

SORRY! I didn't bring a Bussekin knife blush
At Chistmas 2013, my girlfriend gifted me a Lionsteel M3, and I promised her to bring that one on my trip.
The M3 performed like a CHAMP though! Awesome knife!

First day. All set to go
I am the one on the right

2nd camp up against a Same village
This village is only used in deep winter, when the Same herd the Reindeer
This night got pretty cold

Drying out clothes. It had been raining all day, so we were pretty wet. I managed to light up a pair of socks blush

Heading out again

1st emergency cabin
We weren't in any kind of emergency, but it just made our lives that much easier, and our nights that much more comfortable

From here, we headed up a mounting, ascenting some 1500 ft

That night, we literally saw that lake freeze up. Moment by moment

2nd emergency cabin
Again, no emergency only added comfort

The lake freezing over
Awesome sight!

Next day, these guys crossed our path
We saw many more. These just came closest
Notice the raw antlers on one of them. Pretty cool!

Me taking a chill in the evening sun
Pretty well camoflaged

Aurora Borealis at 2am
More awesomeness!!!

Woke up to some heavy snowfall
We then decided to head down the mountain, as we didn't wether the snow could end up snowing us in.

Next day, we were on the way home
7 days earlier we had stood at that same sign, and headed for Parek, the Same village.

The Kvikkjokk Mountain Station
We arrived on the lastopen day of the season
And we were the last ones to stay there for that season

That evening the Inn keeper prepared an amazing meal for us from reindeer tenderloin. Some of the best food I have ever had

Well deserved beer smile

That is it, from a truly great trip to a wildernessarea out of the ordinary

I'll come back there for sure. Hopefully in 2016

I have to slit the post up in to 4, as there is a limit to # of pics per post
