Evening Dogs! Would stripping my HDD Dagger void the warranty? Also, has anyone had an issue with Sandvic 12c27 rusting? Any help is greatly appreciated!

No problem with the striptease. As far as sandvic 12c27 I haven't had a problem with it, but I always wipe my blades off.
By the Way, WELCOME TO THE YARD! I hope you grow to like it here as much as we do. The blades are great, but the people are Greater!

It will rust if you do not remove the decarb from the surface, had this happen to a stripped HDDD personally when carried and sweating. Once you remove this layer of steel then you should be just fine.

Thanks guys! What's the best way to get rid of the decarb? Sanding I would assume, but that CB has some books and crannies that might be tricky..

Steel wool or scotch brits pads should do the trick, just might take some elbow grease or a dremel or some other powered setup

Strip it and put a patina on it, it would look really neat.

I have the HDD but it's not stripped. I do have experience with Folding knives in 12c27 being exposed to sweat and showing oxidization but not pitting.
It is a good stainless steel but still needs some attention.

Welcome to the yard. Not sure this steel would take a patina very well being technically considered a 'stainless' steel. Of course any steel can oxidize regardless, but it just may take some stronger kinds of chemicals to achieve with this.

Of course any steel can oxidize regardless, but it just may take some stronger kinds of chemicals to achieve with this. It can be etched. I have used fluoric acid and muriatic acid. Once I did it accidentally.

Welcome to the yard and thankfully stripping doesn't effect the warranty, or a lot of us would be in trouble!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and advice! I've been crazy at work, but started my vacation yesterday so finally time to do this project,, I also brought home a bunch of waterstones from work, (posted a bunch of pics of my AMS after reprofiling on the Busse site) so I also plan on touching up the edge on the dagger,, although I'm going to leave the tip and 1/2 inch of edge from the tip alone,, as its geometry is perfect for piercing and the like... I was also thinking (as I was hiking and fishing in the mountains of Virginia) that the dagger design would be perfect for lashing to a long branch as a spear if needed,, mostly because I couldn't get this finicky native trout to take my fly,,,almost wanted to spear the little sucker!

Hmmm. Methinks you could "Notch" a hiking staff so that you could just insert the Dagger into the notch and then lash the blade down. That way you would always have the means to have a "Spear" with you on your outings.

I don't have the stuff at my house or in the shop to do that,, although I'd like the look of it. I've seen videos of people doing it by placing the knife in a can of stones,, then wrapping it in a towel and running it in the dryer,,, not sure if that's what I want to do,,, we'll see!

So this is how it went Coating came off super easy ![[Linked Image from i57.tinypic.com]](http://i57.tinypic.com/qprl7p.jpg) Marked the edge with a sharpie, and how much of the original edge profile I wanted to leave ![[Linked Image from i61.tinypic.com]](http://i61.tinypic.com/op8l93.jpg) Started knocking the shoulder down ![[Linked Image from i57.tinypic.com]](http://i57.tinypic.com/24c5zrt.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i59.tinypic.com]](http://i59.tinypic.com/veq1sn.jpg)

Ok, here she is in all her glory,, stripped and SHARP. I originally went with a strider wrap,, but this vixen needed something more slimming and form fitting.. ![[Linked Image from i58.tinypic.com]](http://i58.tinypic.com/2r7wtwl.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i60.tinypic.com]](http://i60.tinypic.com/53398k.jpg) I may actually try to put some tan paper micarta scales on next.. But for now I'll just enjoy this.
