I worked in Airfield Management. We were the guys the raced down the runway looking for FOD and declaring the runway open or closed. When the C130s used the assault runway, now THAT was impressive. IIRC it was 3000 ft long and they would land and take off in that distance.

Airfield Management was also called Base Operations. We are the folks where the pilots filed their flight plans. We are also the place where all the "VIPs" deplaned and we had the "DV" lounge. That place where Colonels and above could relax in plush chairs, drink fresh coffee and make calls in private.
