This is exciting NEWS for all of you Scrap Yard SR-101 lovers.
1095 steel has never been able to match the performance of SR-101 across the board in terms of Edge Holding, Impact Resistance, and Lateral Strength.
It can do well in any of these three categories, but it cannot excel at all three at any single hardness like SR-101 does.
Therefore, plans to make the TRASH 1 out of 1095 have been scrapped! It will, instead, be made from our legendary SR-101 steel.

Dingy, I of course do not know, but suspect they got a good deal on a quantity of that steel type and figured they could offer it to us at a better price than the normal steel they use. I reckon the price increase proves that to be at least partly correct. BUT the real (or whole) reason we will probably know.
BUT we CAN all rest assured that "The Boys" will always do their best to give us the Best possible prices they can. That's just the kind of boys Mrs. "B" raised, God Bless her.

You know, I just realized something that Dan said about 1095. He DID allude to the fact is is a good steel, but that it couldn't match the three fold "Edge Holding, Impact Resistance, and Lateral Strength" of SR101 at any SINGLE HARDNESS (through tempering as one Rockwell C scale level.
COULD this mean (If they DO have 9 tons of 1095) that we may, at least on a limited basis see a return to Differential hardening of "Kin" blades? An interesting concept.
