Are the laws different in Canada, because a full buttstock on a handgun constitutes a SBR (short barrel rifle) here ... which is a NFA (national firearms act of 1934) regulated item meaning special transfer paperwork and a $200 tax.

In Canada the ranch hand and mare's leg are classified as non-restricted rifles

Here in BC it is legal to hunt with a rifle as long as the barrel is a minimum of 12 inches long

Bought a couple Moras. A model called the Craftline S (for stainless). There a little gap between the blade and the handle that's a bit disappointing. Other than that it's the usual Mora quality. But I couldn't recommend this model to anybody because of that little gap.

And I discovered Z-Man fishing lures. They use a interestingly stretchy and tough plastic they call Elaztech. This stuff is also light weight and floats. I used some lures last weekend and it's looking like good stuff. I was a little out of wack so I'll have to wait until next time to know for sure if I'm liking them.

That makes more sense than our arbitrarily chosen minimum barrel length. Personally, I don't see how a rifle with a 10" barrel is more or less dangerous than a rifle with a 16" barrel. If anything, the 16" will have MORE DEADLY ballistic performance.

I'd like to have a 10 to 12" AR, but don't want to SBR register a lower so I will never have one.

we have a minimum barrel length of 18" or overal length of 26" unless it is oem.
It would be illegal for me to have a gunsmith chop a barrel of a Rossi 92 to 12"

Those were the days, Tom! This one was almost $500. My next build will be a Jim Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle at almost $1,000! Then I will be ready (I hope) to build a longrifle from a plank of curly maple and various parts.
