Maybe the "Baffles" are made so the swirling gasses tighten it as they move through it.

I may need to see a therapist about why I can't seem to like SKS rifles. I found a decent deal on one and I've been dragging out picking it up. There is just no excitement for me when it comes to this rifle. It's probably a good rifle and it may even turn out to be a good shooter. Even so, I'm already thinking of where I'm going to store it so it's out of my way. It'll be lucky if I never take a hacksaw to it and turn it into something like this. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lDLIBT1zGFU/maxresdefault.jpg

I've had a number of SKS and don't like them.

I liked my SKS kind of miss it but if I had another one I would just be using it as a hand off gun for anyone who needed it if it came to it. The AK and AR platforms are miles above it as far as a go to rifle is concerned.

The sig prices have really tanked since the news that the Spec ops are switching from them, but they are rock solid and hard to beat for a GTW gun.

That model has a cast receiver. In a FAL I want a forged upper.

I've had quite a few DSA rifles. For the most part they're a solid hobby grade FAL. The pre 2007-2008 guns had a lot of quality surplus parts. Post 2008 and the DSA made parts count increases. These have proven to be of questionable quality.
I'd look for an IMBEL.

My FAL of choice is a 100% IMBEL imported by Springfield Armory as a SAR-48. I wouldn't part with mine for any amount of money. I view that rifle as my Nuclear Winter battle rifle.
