I finally "Touched" up the edge on my small GTI folder. No it didn't really need it, but it will now (again) smoothly cut thin yellow note pad paper and you can change directions without tearing the paper as it cuts in another direction.

I had forgotten all about this thread. So to make amends, sorta, kinda, I am resurrecting this and making a couple of posts.

First off Y'all know I am a new found convert to Spyderco folders. Specifically the Military, PM2 (Para Military 2), and the Para 3.

The PM2 fits MY hands like a well broken in glove. It is my Favorite folder of all time for several reasons.
1. It just FITS.
2. I like the FFG grind as it makes a great slicer and is also more than strong enough.
3. The Spyder Hole blade opener. It works VERY well and it also does not stick out from the blade so as to impede the ability of the blade to cut to it's full depth.
4. They are not like any other knife out there. Oh others may have the Spyder hole in the blade but that distinctive hump makes it truly Spyderco, like the Talon Hole makes a knife a Busse.

Now You also know I am a fan of Emersons.
1. They are just plain old tough looking
2. It's not just looks, they ARE tough.
3. They're not fancy but functional blades that just work.
4. They just put off a Vibe that says "I will not fail you".
5. That Wave feature makes them the fastest deploying blades from your pocket.

I do still like them but for the present Spyderco are my favorite carry blades. I might start putting one in my Maxped bag for a backup backup backup grin That fast deploying wave feature can become habit forming and can make you miss the ease of opening.

Spyderco or Emerson. You can't go wrong with either one. It's just personal preference, what you become used to.

Like I said Rich, I still like my emersons, but as far as how they feel in the hand and the ease of opening and closing, I think Spyderco is the better of the two. Now IF I knew I was going somewhere that the use of a knife might be quite high, I would go with at least one Emerson as the primary. And it would be because of the wave feature that yields I think a much faster presentation. I MIGHT even carry two emersons and one Spyderco. Probably one of me Emerson CQC 15s, not sure if it would be the Full size or the Mini. Even the mini brings a 3.5 inch blade to bear.

I was wondering where this thread went too.

I bought quite a few new folders the past few years since Scrapyard stopped producing knives in the past few years.

I did get the Emerson mini CQC-15 which is a pretty neat blade. I like the smaller size that fits well in my pocket.

I still have some Spyderco's, but don't use them too much anymore. They are mostly the older ones.

I do like the older Benchmade knives and have a few of them along with Kershaws.

When I get time i will take a few pics of them.

I think that the '15 series, full size or mini, with leanings toward the Mini are possibly the best for SD. You have the recurve blade to "keep it in the cut" and the Americanized tanto point for penetration. I am talking Emersons here, as I know there are equally well or better SD blades out there.

I really like the mini, most Emerson knives are just too big for me, but the mini is a perfect size. I'm glad you informed me about them. I do have another Emerson knife that is pretty cool, the Phalanx. It's a super nice knife, but a little large for me to EDC. I like an EDC knife that I forget that it's in my pocket

I am glad to have been able to assist you BC. The emersons are hand filling as in width (the smaller ones). The bigger ones, well they are just bigger! IF I had to choose only ONE, the Emerson cqc15 mini or the Spyderco PM2, I would probably be dead before I could make up my mind. BUT as I have said at present, the Spyderco blades win out for me. IF you haven't and IF you have the funds, give the Spyderco PM2 a try. You just might like it.

Now if Sal would just make it with a recurve tanto point like the '15 has...

Yes, I agree, a recurve tanto would be nice on a Spyderco.

About the Emersons, there are a lot of people out there I read that say the blades chips a lot the blades. I haven't used mine very hard but the blade seems to be just fine.
