The slide to dust cover fit is awful too.
I've found the problem with buying the last of anything a dealer has in stock is...everyone before you picked out the better guns. You get stuck with the one nobody else wanted.

I'd send it to STI for an evaluation. If that's their standard, then post about it and move on. It was an expensive lesson that several of us have learned the hard way. If it isn't up to their QC they should make it right.
Either way, your heartburn will end...or at least you'll know.
I hate that another of us has fallen victim to the "if I pay a ton for a 1911 it'll be perfect...or at least acceptable" trap. You're not alone. I commiserate with you.
