Yes, i agree they are good enough. I guess what im trying to say is they are expensive for the materials they are made of, thats all im getting at. They are nice but the steel is kind of outdated and liner locks arent the toughtest locks out there. I like them for what I use them for. Even the Buck 110 is using a different steel than when they started making them back in the day, they upgraded from 440 steel.

I reckon he is familiar with the material and just stuck in his ways. AND that he sells enough as they are so why go to something completely different.

I recall reading something where he explained why he did not use a newer super steel, and he said that he was extremely familiar with the steel that he uses. He said he didn’t see any advantages in using a newer steel and some disadvantages. His knives are at a fairly low Rockwell so that they are easy to sharpen and also not break in use. If he used a newer steel, he would still heat to the same Rockwell rating so no point to using a more expensive steel. He doesn’t want his knives to be super hard.

Reckon considering what his knives are used for some I guess that makes sense.

I received an email yesterday from Emerson. Evidently he now uses a new steel in a new line of knives. The steel, S35VN, is still heat treated to 57-59 Rockwell like his 154 CM. The knife is priced at $590.

That’s odd. I figured you would get 2 or 3 of them. I kind of like his folding Karambit but I have a couple of fixed blades that should be sufficient.

I do like his fixed and Combat karambit, and the CQC 15s (Mini specifically).

Thats cool Emerson is venturing out and using a different steel, but that price is outrageous. I've seen many knives made by Zero Tolerance, Protech, Spyderco, and Cold Steel made with that same steel in the $110.00 range to under $200.00. I'm sure its a great knife though, but looks like me and Skunk Hunter will be sticking with our Mini CQC-15 grin

It seems like all of the knife makers are increasing their prices, at least it looks that way by reading Blade magazine. Much like so much of the sporting goods industry, they are riding a wave of popularity and demand,; as long as folks are willing to spend more money for their products they will continue raising prices. Just look at the crazy prices for bows, cross-bows, firearms, etc.
If people would refrain from paying the exorbitant prices, vendors would have to drop their prices or go out of business. Many auto dealers learned that you make money with lower prices but increased volume.
