I know what you mean, Unsub. I did a little comparison between the Guard and some of my other 7" knives. It edged out the Becker and RAT-7, but I felt that it should have stomped them. Since I reprofiled the edge, it does. I love it. One day I will find a Camp Tramp, and see if the YG holds its own against the legend. I think it will. The Hook is the same knife, except for the blade catch. Those SYK recurves are some great all around combat/utility/camp knives.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I have said it before but I can't get get over how much I like this darn knife. It is great looking ,has a perfect handle and is the smallest knife you can actually chop with. The Hook and my SS4 are the only 2 knives I would never sell. Compared to my M6 the extra inch and recurve make it so much more useful as a chopping tool and the weight and overall length is barely noticeable. I even like it much more than my DF which is ugly and clumsy in comparison.
It is both a first rate fighter and survival knife. I think I will grind an edge into the back clip to make it an even better fighter and to personalize it a bit.
Thank you Dan, this knife is one of those rare objects that seems to embody a bit of my personality. It will be the one I grab whether I am going camping or going to war and I plan on keeping it until the day I die. Maybe longer if they bury me with it like I asked.
In our throw away society it is rare to have something speak to our souls anymore. Things like kick only hardtail shovelhead choppers and 80 year old milsurp rifles that are tackdrivers with 2 feet of steel bayonet hanging of the end of the barrel are becoming rare in our society that wants the latest tech gizmo that will be outdated garbage in 6 years. I am so glad you like the knife. I find that each knife I have has a certain linkage to my personality and in some cases I almost feel that they are a sole mate so to speak. Enjoy Dan

Well spoken unsub. One of my favorite quotes (not sure who said it though, L. Noob Alert and first post
Isn't the yard guard and the yard hook the same knife outside of the hook? So if they're the same is the yard guard the same blade as the camp tramp as well?

The Camp Tramp appears to be much more like the S6 to me.

I don't have a Camp Tramp. I'm just going by the pictures. A side by side comparison should be interesting.

Welcome to the Yard crimsonice5656.
The Camp Tramp does not have a recurve blade profile either.

So if they're the same is the yard guard the same blade as the camp tramp as well? The CT does not have the recurve in the blade like these do. The CT is also supposed to be 7 1/2 inches long, and it is measured from the handle to the tip. The choil is quite large on it though. Since the CT is from the swamp, it is SR-101 steel. The CT is differentially tempered. I know the Mini Mojo and the Mini Uncle Mojo coming out of the swamp were through hardened. Does anyone know if the YG and YH are through hardened, or differentially hardened? I am assuming the same as the swamp, but could be wrong.

Wow Unsub.. sounds like you Really like your Hook!! A while back you were considering grinding your DF into a fighter, but now looks like you don't have to! I don't have a Hook or Guard.. saving for other stuff so had to sit out. Like Diceman, I feel really attached to my Dog Father. It's size, heft, and abilities are very reassuring.. like an all-steel 1911. My "one" knife has got to be Scrapper 6.. feels so well-balanced in hand. But after reading your review.. I'll definitely have to take a Hook out for a test drive some day! Thanks for sharing bro.

My baby's gone!
I sent my Hook away to Eric at One scene Tactical for some new clothes. I miss her already. I really felt like I had to start a thread about the Hook because like Dan said it felt like it expressed part of my personality.
I was considering grinding my DF into a big fighter with a sharpened back edge like a Bagwell bowie but it felt wrong to try to change it's personality into something it isn't. The DF is an exellent backwoods chopper or survival bowie and it is just to thick to ever be quick enough as a fighter without grinding a whole new knife out of it. Better to just wait until a knife comes along that just needs a bit of polish to be exactly what I want.
I think 7 inches is like the sweet spot aesthetically for a knife as thick as the Scrappers and Rats. The 6's have a bit to much handle. The 7's like the Camp Tramp look like a picture of a knife like you would find in a dictionary next to the word "knife" when you look at them in profile.
I miss my Hook already and it has only been gone for a couple of hours. I have a Katana , a Mutt and a hook all in the clutches of Canada Post which is a unionized government agency in a socialist country. A Canada Post employee could take my Katana out of the package ,kill his supervisor with it and still could not be fired.
