I normally don't carry a folding saw unless bow hunting or in my quad.
However I find the saw on the Swiss army knife is big enough for making notches in wood.
I always have a saw in the truck and when camping.

I think that a saw is often times a better choice than an axe or hatchet. Though I have never used it I keep a Silky Saw with my bag.
