I am resting up today and the next couple of days. I planted about 15 tomato and pepper plants, a cantaloupe and a watermelon in our new raised bed structure. Not a lot but I did it all by myself! I am not physically able to have a large garden as I did in the past. But since I am the only one who eats tomatoes 10 plants should be enough. I have a mix of Early Girls, beefsteaks, cherry and a purple variety.

We have all tried fried green tomatoes prepared by a great cook in Alabama. Sad to say but nobody liked them.

Howdy guys! Ray, limiting your garden is a good idea, and we have done the same. Most of our plants are in the tubs directly behind our deck, with sweet potatoes and green beans in our old 30 x 75' garden area. It gets tougher to deal with a large garden with each passing year, and what we planted will supply us with what we want and need.

I planted a decent container garden this year. Unfortunately, we got a late freeze. I only planted 4 tomatoes plants but they didn't do well and 2/3rd of my pepper plants are pretty rough. The wife's dog took care of anything living in the raised beds so no watermelon and very few cucumbers if they survive.
LOL, the challenges of gardening I guess. It will be a learning experience for sure.

Depending on where you live, it's still not too late to get some plants started.;)

I think I will have enough zucchini, squash and egg plant to make our neighbors sick of getting them. The cauliflower seems to be doing well also. I'm still trying to save the maters but I may be losing that battle. I will have a healthy amount of potatoes though.
Our growing season is pretty short about 80 days. Gardening at 7,000 feet is tricky. Lettuce and radishes are about the only easy crop. Usually, tomatoes are easy just not this year.

I hear you on the zucchini! LOL My "must haves" are tomatoes and peppers, followed by green beans, sweet potatoes, and kale.

Looking at them today, I might have saved 2 of the tomato plants. I'm taking care of the others but It may be a losing battle. I have a couple of Pepper plants sprouted and one growing well. I'm not sure if they will have time to fruit and mature though.
