Well just read a "Blurb" in the semi local paper. It appears the oh say 30 miles out from the largest city in Southeast Missouri is now rated 6th in the nation for Covid-19 positives per capita. I know I just got another robo call from our local (1302 population town) nursing home that a second employee has now tested positive. That makes 2 in one week. Oh did I mention that my Mom is a resident there? Kinda got me worried, she will be 89 Dec 24th and has several health issues, to include heart problems.

My wife’s mother who is 94 is in a nursing home also. She caught COVID 19 but went through it very well. Those old folks are pretty tough.

Thats a rough one. Some nursing homes are great. Others are horrible horrible places. Prayers for your Mom.
I am trying out dry canning. I never tried it before and thought I would give it a shot. Pinto beans, Rice and flour are my first victims. I would try a few others but canning jars are like hens teeth right now. Depending on who you ask if it's done right, it shifts the shelf life anywhere bewteen 15 and 30 years.
Plus I'm vacume packing some of the same stuff. I figure I will break some of the flour out each year and see how it works. I'll use that as my yard stick to see if it is worth it. Rice and beans tend to stay decent if stored dry and cool anyway.

We just “prepared” some more beans ourselves, along with some rice. Now need to work on some pasta and some cans of meat.

I think I'm going to try and dry can some powdered milk. The shelf life is pretty bad in the foil lined boxes. I have some powdered milk in heavy plastic/mylar bags but I'm not sure how long they will last in the sealed bags. I did vacume seal the ones in the bags as well to see if I can get more shelf life out of them. But all it really does is act as a backup if the bag has a leak.
I'm trying to play catchup again since we are now caring for my inlaws as well.
