Its cold, wet, and dreary here today. I'm eating chili and watching 13th Warrior ... some much needed time off (a recommendation from a Senior Dog here). Anyway, I thought a Carry Gun thread could be fun.

Pics are encouraged.

However, as much as I love the utter reliability of the HK products ... I can't get over how soulless polymer framed guns are. I'm going back to carrying 1911s. My first handgun was a 1911, and I've carried them off and on for the past 25 years. As much as I want "modernize", I haven't found anything that can keep my attention better than a quality 1911.

I'm kinda like you Gary. Plastic guns don't do much for me. And actually the "New" Vunderguns" although nice, just don't have that "I'll never leave you baby" mystique. Now my SR1911CMD, well She is IT! So when I get my IWB holster for the Sig P239 I will be carrying it some, but my first love remains my Ruger 45.

To quote the song (well sort of) I like big guns and I can not lie... grin

OH I also am now everyday carrying a Benchmade Mini-grip so as to not scare the Sheeple and an Emerson Mini CQC15 just in case. I will also at times carry my Ruger lC9 with laser, or Walther PPK.

Sounds like you got some good advice. And the 13th warrior is a great movie! I like what he did with that ugly old sword he was given. smile Oh and I see you are using a real leather holster. Way to go!

1911 in 45ACP. Those who claim it isn't about the size have never carried a 45. rolling

I used to carry a Colt 1911 in .45ACP and used it in IPSC for a couple of years. I had a problem with the manual safety that happened once each year. I forgot to flick the safety off prior to shooting. This never happened during practice, only under the stress of competition. I began to think about whether this could occur to me during the greater stress of a personal encounter. I did not want to risk it so I purchased a Glock. In .45ACP of course. Never had to worry about the problem again. Although, I did keep trying to flick the safety off for a while. grin

If Busse released an INFI Viking sword I would buy one, and actually mount it to my fighting gear.

What ibn Fadlan did to that beautiful nordic blade was blasphemy!

I prefer real leather to kydex. I was thinking of ordering a 3" VM2 for the Colt Defender I ordered last night ...

I change my carry guns from time to time. When I switched from GLock to HK I kept trying to hit the "button mag release" which HKs do not have.

Another time I switched from 1911s to HKs, and didn't have a problem with the C-N-L safety, but again the mag release issue came up.

Another time I switched from Sigs to Glocks. I kept trying to hit the decocker ... which wasn't there.

Muscle memory is about training.

I can always tell former military at the range when I see "Tap Rack Bang" drills. They don't even realize they're doing it.

The "carry battery" I'm building will consist of:

Colt Defender (3" Stainless 1911)
Colt XSE (5" Stainless Government Model 1911)
Les Baer UTC (5" Blued Government Model 1911)

The Defender will be a "back up" or "warm weather" gun when I can't conceal a full size 1911.

The Colt XSE will be my "inclement weather" standard carry gun. I'll carry this when it is rainy or I anticipate getting sweaty.

The Les Baer will be my preferred carry gun. Out of all of the guns I've carried I have never felt better armed than with a Les Baer. However, I like my Baers to be blued, and it can easily rust.

I've carried 1911s intermittently for the past 25 years. I ALWAYS come back to them. As Randy said, plastic guns are solid tools. Much like the hammer in your tool box. However, you probably don't enjoy owning or using your hammer. You know it'll do a reasonable job of pounding nails, but otherwise ... it is just an object. Steel guns have soul and character. They project mental images of a better (and simpler) time when man toiled to craft items built to last lifetimes...not as cheaply as possible for the disposable consumer of today.

I was cleaning out some boxes and came across a ziploc bag with 5 shock buffs in it. I'm not sure if I have ever used any or not. Gary, what is your opinion of them? To me they just seem like something that can cause your gun to malfunction at exactly the wrong time. Now I have seen a couple of "Recoil reduction rods" that look like they might be useful, but once again, are they worth messing with Uncle John's greatest invention?

I know that my SR1911CMD is heavier that all my guns except for my slightly built up Colt 1991A1 but It is my favorite carry gun of them all. That's why it wears the Crusader Grips I got from VZ Grips.

Shok Buffs can cause malfunctions, and can actually accelerate frame wear. Yes, they are made of compressible material but they add thickness and thus impart increased loads.

Gary, these are the ones I have. They provide a really good grip but won't tear up your skin if you carry without an undershirt.

Oh and they have then in two or three different colors.

And styles, but I don't like these standing on the skulls

I saw those grips on a different sight and ALMOST ordered them, but in the long run wanted the stability of man made material and just thought the Crusader grips fit my personality better (I HATE radicalism of ANY kind) and the Knights Templar, although kinda shady themselves, represent at least to me the fight against Radicalism, with Radical Islamists as "Group" number one. Then you have all the groups that folks don't usually think of as Radical extremests, but actually are.

Friday, October 13th, 1307 is attributed as the day King Philip IV ordered the Knights Templars arrested. Oddly, we had a Friday October 13th this year. Exactly 710 years after the destruction of the Templar Order. Some historians dispute the date. Of course, some historians would argue the Templars never existed. There is evidence of the Pope's (unsuccessful) attempts at merging two orders (Hospitallers ... who were the Pope's private army and the Templars who were not) approximately one year prior to the Templars arrest. The Hospitallers still exist today.

"God is not pleased. We have enemies of the faith in the kingdom."

The real "god" here was money. King Philip owed the Templars a lot of it.

You didn't give me time to answer! I was gonna say that is the day that the King of France, FEARING the Knights Templar, decided to make them NO LONGER a force to be reckoned with. In other words he ordered them Killed!

Now that my sensitive feelers have been hurt I am gonna go cry in a corner while I do my coloring book therapy. wink

YUP, it appears that the KT were the first "Payday loan" business businesses to Governments. They were like today's Federal Reserve and China respectively, with the "Fed" actually owning more of America than the Chinese. AND "THE FED" being a NON governmental agency prints our Money! Sounds kinda stupid if you ask me, but I haven't really done any research into it.

And speaking of money, HOPEFULLY I will have my new VM2 IWB holster from Milt Sparks in the next 2 or three weeks.

The KT started international banking.

They didn't just loan money to governments. They actually established "holding banks" along the pilgrimage trail to Jerusalem. In effect, they would issue a "certificate of deposit" when you left your valuables with them at Location A. This slip of paper looked worthless to bandits / thieves along the trail. When you arrived at Location B you redeemed your certificate for gold and silver...thus being able to travel without the fear of getting looted.

Of course, the KT, charged a percentage fee for this "service".

The Hapsburgs / Rothschilds took this idea, and grew it into what we know know as "banking". This is one of the cornerstones of hatred toward Jewish people.

The US Federal Reserve Act was hatched in November 1910, on Jekyll Island, by six men. Among them, Paul Warburg and Senator Nelson Aldrich.

Afterword, Aldrich promoted a banking plan that was ultimately rejected by congress. However, the plan was incorporated into a broader scheme that became the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.

Warburg was German born (also a member of a jewish banking dynasty), and went on to chair the federal reserve and counsel on foreign relations.

When Warburg died he was the chairman of the Manhattan Company and a director of the Bank of Manhattan Trust Company, Farmers Loan and Trust Company of New York, and First National Bank of Boston.

NOTE: I have absolutely nothing against God's chosen people. Just reciting history so people can have a better understanding of where the idiotic hate of jewish people originates. If history teaches us anything it is two fold: 1) don't make God mad; 2) don't mess with God's people.

I wouldn't care if the Federal Reserve had been started by Tibetan Sherpas or gorgeous redheaded 19 year old Irish gals or squids from the planet Blargone lead by Capt. PopTart ... I'd hate them for robbing the American people of their individual wealth (not their race, creed, gender identity, sexual orientation, favorite ice cream flavor, religious associations or political affiliation)

YEAH! What he said ^^! smile I am not making fun of what Gary said, just doing the "AMEN" to what he said. Only people with some kind of a problem would Blame an entire race of people (or religious group) for what only what some have done. Just Like Islam. I don't hate all Muslims, just the ones that are bent on causing those not like them harm just because they are not like them. I also don't like Kluckers, skinheads and others of their Demented brain dead thinking.

Basically I don't like folks that don't like or won't tolerate ANYONE that is different. Yes, we have many different races and creeds, religions. BUT as long as none of them try to hurt me just because I am not like them, I don't have a problem. BUT if they don't like me and try to hurt those like me ONLY because we are different, BIG problem.

Society is a lot like your vegetable garden ...

There are lots of different kinds of vegetables in your garden. The only plants that get killed are weeds. When you find a weed, you pull it out by the roots and burn it, because it is there to harm your good plants.

I picked up my Colt Defender today at lunch. It is a very small, compact, and lightweight 1911! If it runs reliability I believe I will enjoy using it in a CCW capacity.

lord M. WAY back in the early mid 80's I had a Colt Officers model. Never had a problem with it feeding/extracting. Probably put only 1000 rounds through it and sold it prior to going to Japan.

Rich,
The DW CCO is very nice indeed. DW has several "carry appropriate" 1911s in their line up.

Randy,
I bought the first Colt Officers I saw. It was 1985 .. the first year of production. I carried that gun throughout high school and into my first year of college. I then traded it (don't remember for what). I carried a Colt Government 380 most of the time after that.

If I remember correctly the Officers model had a low three digit serial (like 147).

My Colt Officer's Model never gave me any trouble. My Detonics, on the other hand, was not reliable enough for carry purposes.

I like the wood on your colt Gary. Oh and I also had a colt .380 Government model. Liked it but got rid of it as well.

I may be heading for the block side. I found one of these in 9mm and think I need it.

Randy,
You’re showing your age. Blue is more likely to match someone’s HAIR now.

What a degenerate society we’ve devolved into.

I thought that Blue hair was just for little old ladies. Well at least they were.

Lol why yes it does thanks for noticing skunk. I have only seen trainers (submunitions) with blue frames so a fully functioning one just seems cool.

No not really as I have no trainers and we use M&Ps at work. All of my firearms are real deal.

Yes, all our Simunition Glocks are blue...we even did a bunch of K Frame Smiths up in Blue Cerakote to denote their use for sim only.
