I'm not sure exactly. The head is fairly soft steel, but they welded a high carbon edge onto it and hardened it.

That looks like a medieval english or euro axe. The high carbon edge on a low carbon or iron body is the way they made them as well. It looks awesome and I love the photo but the background is the wrong culture. You need a stone wall or a suit of armour.

I have a stone wall across the street, but the neighbors wouldn't appreciate me running around with the axe. I should have taken it against the ivy a water buffalo skulls on the fence.
