I kinda want to get some good fixed sights for a rifle and shoot irons for a mix up.

Well...time for a retraction of my previous comments on the Shadow System! I had decided to just sell it and take a hit on it...but then changed my mind and decided to take it out for another spin. So yesterday I brought it out with my fav (19x) and shot the same drills with each gun back to back. I put 100 rounds through each gun doing 5-6 different drills. I'll be damned if the Shadow System didn't do as well as if not better and it felt fine! It smoked the 19x when I went to 20 yards, drew and fired 3 rounds (repeated 3-4x)- far better grouping. Conditions were pretty crappy...it was cold, windy and I had on a bulky jacket that was hard to work with and wore gloves a couple of times.
IDK if the aggressive texturing on the handle bugged me too much last time? It felt It felt less snappy...although I did have the same light on each gun...hmmm?? Ok, next time I'll do the same with my Glock 45 sans lights. For now...disregard my previous posts!
It was more reliable as well. I did have 3-4 failures to go into battery but they just needed a light tap on the rear of the slide and it was gtg. That is with 250 rounds through it so I hope for flawless running in the next couple hundred rounds.

Shot the Glock 45 and Shadow System briefly...sans light. They felt very similar. IDK what my malfunction was the first day? Just shot a few groups slow fire. Grouping was very close...maybe a smidge better for the SS. Here's 10 rounds with the 45 at 7'ish rounds... And the SS...same deal Then shot at 100 briefly...the 45 did better. Probably because I'm more used to the trigger.

I was pleasantly surprised...I almost never shoot slow fire. Happy I didn't get overly excited with the grouping and then choke and throw a couple! The SS comes with a magwell which I installed and like a lot. It's a keeper but how much more gun is it really over a 17? The groups with the 45 were great (for me) and I prefer the trigger on my 19x. I was a little faster on the timer with the SS but I don't think enough to justify the price difference. At some point, I may get into red dots for pistol and this will be the one I go for and seems to have the better mounting system. IDK...your mileage will vary and this is one mediocre shooter's opinion.

I’m considering a Hex (Springfield) Wasp for my Hellcat. But I can still do “good enough” with the irons long as I don’t go over 15 yards.

The thing is you definitely have a certain level of dot you can trust for self defense and competition use. Holosun, Trijicon, aimpoint, leupold are the ones I’d trust right now

If I make the move to one, I'm thinking of the Holsun Vulcan. I think that outer ring would help me learn how to shoot with a dot.

I’ve not used the Vulcan but it’s a cool concept. The big thing when moving to a dot that helped me is before pressing out coming up higher with the pistol almost like your looking down the sights as you press out, also don’t panic if you don’t see the dot the second your there your brain says it’s an eternity but the timer will show it’s not. When coming out with irons you kinda reference the irons a little more and since you don’t have that with the dot you need to be a little cleaner in the presentation. I find my first shot speed is about the same with a dot as irons and that my follow up shots are faster and more accurate with a dot. It make dry fire more rewarding with a good visual reference and over all shooting a dot has made me a better irons shooter. I can shoot irons more accurately with a hard target focus at farther ranges now which is very useful I find in force on force classes.

It's going to take me awhile to get there..old dog new trick kinda thing.
Had a nice highlight shooting today- hit a 7 yard A zone in 1.09 seconds...never got so fast of a draw. Was in a level 2 safariland. I was stuck in the 1.3-1.4 land forever. Finally started busting out 1.2s a few months ago on a fairly regular basis. Today was a nice surprise.
