I received my SS4 today and was wondering why the crinkle coat was ground off the spine of the knife? Functional, looks ? My handle seems to be ground (damaged ) from the process. Other than that nice knife.

The coating was removed from the spine of the knife to make it look different from later models. Not a defect on yours

It makes them more “special”. Any extra finishing work is a value added activity, because it takes more time, and time costs money. It said in this thread:

In order to differentiate the INFI Street Scrappers from other future runs of this model that might be made out of a different steel, we have added some pretty cool custom features. These include the Scrap Yard Logo with the word "INFI" under it as well as a satin finished spine. . . . ALL INFI Street Scrappers will have these features without exception.

When we make the Street Scrapper again out of a different steel, they will be sterile and fully coated.

I LOVE the fact that the spine is satin finished. It makes it unique and very cool in my opinion!!

I like the (modified) logo a lot but I must admit to being luke-warm about the polished spine- either polish the whole thing or leave it black.. It just looks a bit mish-mash to me.. (Sorry!) I can't wait till mine arrives though!

I like the polished spine. I think it gives it some contrast. I bet the S7
sterile scrapper 4 will be a bargain of a knife. My guess 69.95$.

You're probably right.

It will be a true bargain.

I felt like I was stealing the INFI version at $140.

All I've seen are pictures of the polished spine and INFI logo so far, but let me tell you, just those have got me drooling!
