Dogs:

Being faced with making a decision for a new steel after the demise of SR-101, https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/we-bid-farewell-to-sr-101-steel.1895535/ , our final decision was based on extensive testing and more than 40 years of knife making experience.

Relying on what made Scrap Yard an exceptional value we held all testing to real-life exercises and never took our eye off the goal of delivering the “Highest Performance to Price Ratio” in the industry.

After testing many of the new wonder steels as well as steels that get play in the cutlery industry the decision was obvious. Scrap Yard Knives is proud to leverage the attributes of AEB-L steel in most, if not all, of its knives. AEB-L steel performed similarly to its proven predecessor, SR-101 steel. The main differentiator is it being a stainless steel. Pretty awesome!!!

Working with Boss Hog at Busse Combat Knives and draining numerous bottles of Scotch, a hybrid heat treat protocol was developed to deliver the best performance for the intended application. In addition, I have secured a large quantity of the lucrative Pixy dust required for this top performance. I did learn that Pixies can hold more than their own weight in Scotch LOL

AEB-L steel is a stainless steel that has been around since the 1960s in some form. It was initially designed as a razor blade steel. AEB-L allows for balancing high hardness (58-60 Rc) with good corrosion resistance, toughness, edge-holding, and ease of re-sharpening.

As always, you can look forward to Scrap Yard providing the best blades at the best price.

It was an amazing journey trying to find a steel that could fill the shoes of SR-101. Not easy but well worth it

I believe the Dogs are going to like it...an Lot

I have a couple of knives in that steel. Very good but everything depends on a good heat treatment.
