Morning Yard!

Well my theory on cell phone signals as a means of testing a faraday cage is busted. As long as I accept that a microwave is a reasonable faraday cage.

I was able to Bluetooth my phone while it was sealed in a microwave.

Being the inquisitive idiot that I am I started looking at the concept of a faraday cage.

Turns out there is a wide spectrum of what a faraday cage is and what it will block. A chain link fence, a car, airplane and concrete reinforced with rebar can all act as a type of faraday cage.

A lot is dependent on what you are trying to block. Obviously a car wont block cell phone signals but it will protect you from a lightning strike most of the time and not just because of the tires. Which until now I was convinced was a fact.

On the other hand a fine mesh will probably stop a cell phone signal but I'm not going to bet my life that it would stop a lightning strike.

Pretty much my redneck testing methods aren't going to cut it on this one.

Lining the walls, floor and ceiling of a room in your house with gold and silver bars will make a very effective Faraday cage. Just ask Scrooge McSkunk.

I made a target stand for one of my steel gongs and for a paper target stand. I would have made a second paper target from but one of the boards warped in the couple of hours it was in the bed of the truck. I couldn't get 1x2 furring strips so I had to buy 1x4 and rip them. Have to see if the one board will straight enough to cut it down to size. It would be real cool if the 1x4 was really 4 inches instead of 2.5 inches.

At least I can work on some pistol drills in multiple targets. All the range target stands are too short. Whoever built them must have been a bench rest shooter.

A few years ago I made a target stand out of 1 1/2" pvc pipe; worked well until my SIL tried a shotgun on it. frown I was able to salvage it, but it is now history.

Good morning Yard. We finally received some much needed rain which helped cool down the temps as well.
