Yep, she is correct on duty to protect. Moral obligations are different than legal obligations though.

The thing about many (at least the one I followed) of those cases is they sued because they refused to take any action to protect themselves. One was offered a hotel where hee ex wouldn't know she was until they found him and took him into custody. But it wasn't convenient. She wanted a cop stationed at her house.

They only thing she is wrong on is qualified immunity. Its not blanket immunity. More often than not its for times when something occurs and wasn't already covered by established law or case law.

I spent a fair amount of time in the ER and having surgery due to putting myself in danger and getting hurt to protect someone else from getting killed.

My back and knee remind me on a regular basis.

Never anything “Serious”, but in my 3 years working as a part time/reserve officer (from1-3 shifts a week! Plus some ride alongs) I was in a few scuffles. Got Maced, hit, kicked spit on bounced off furniture…

Well, I got bounced all over........................... while mowing the lawn. I'm pretty keyed up because I got hotel reservations made for our visit to the Alamo as well as boarding the dogs. I have wanted to go there since I was just a little spud, growing up with Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Scott Forbes as Jim Bowie. Going to get the serviced and checked over tomorrow and then on to the VA for a physical.

Enjoy your trip Tom. I was there when I was around 10 maybe, and again while in basic training in 1974. Lots of history there, lots to contemplate on. Oh and be sure you do the River walk thing.

Have a good trip, Tom. I always wanted to go there. We are about the same age so I also grew up with John Wayne, Fess Parker etc. I had a plastic flintlock rifle and a coonskin cap. Good times.

Hogan's Heroes is where my Drill Instructor got the idea to call me Private Klink (he sure wasn't going to call me Colonel !).

My physical went VERY well, including the blood and urine tests. After that we took the General's car for an oil change and look-over. After we got home I called a tire dealer who had our size in stock so I took the car for four new tires ; I don't want any road problems during our upcoming trip. To top it off, I picked up a pizza at Pizza Hut for dinner.

If I Remember right, every state you’re gonna travel through has Reciprocity with Missouri.
