My father told me that when he was a kid in Alabama, corncobs were used by the hillbillies and Sears catalogs were used in the outhouses by upper class folk. When he was out playing with his friends and away from their houses, they used young pine trees. Just straddled them and ran down the trunk. Had to be careful to go in the right direction though.

My G’pa and G’ma used Montgomery Ward catalogs in their outhouse. And yes, it was down hill.

It was 8 degrees here this morning. Chickens water was solid, had to work a while to get them ready for the day, then got to do it all over again when we got home from church. Ah, the joys of country living.

But it beats living in a city where you can’t even see the stars.
