My wife majored in wildlife science in college and operated her own wild animal shelter. She feeds the birds and squirrels in our area. It’s funny to watch her open a window to our backyard and call the squirrels. Her current record is 27 squirrels and 2 chipmunks who answered her call at one time. She doesn’t mind if I go hunting but she says her “pets” are off limits.

That's really cool, and explains how she ended up with YOU. A couple of years ago we found two baby meadowlarks along the base of our house, one was dead and the other was in rough shape. The General picked him up and brought him into the house and began nursing it back to health. She found that he liked moistened cat food and mashed up bananas with his water. She named him Irving and would take him into our garden while she was working in there and Irving learned to like worms. We would spend a lot of time sitting at our picnic table talking to Irving and he seemed to learn his name, or at least that particular sound. We could leave him in the garden and go to the picnic table, then call him and he would fly right to us. He stayed with us quite a while until at last the "call of the wild" got to him. He flew up to us while we were sitting on our deck as if to say good-bye, then flew off to the fields. He was one cute little character and we still miss him, but feel good that we gave him a good start to a good life.

We feed the birds and squirrels here as well. We have 10 feeders out and they go dry every 3 days. But it’s enjoyable setting in the swing on the side of the house and watched them. We have a large tulip poplar between our house and the neighbors rail fence.

A turkey was grazing in the back yard until I let the dogs out. It seems to be a frequent visitor; I wonder if it wants to join us for Thanksgiving dinner ?

Good late night Yard. I FINALLY got caught up with my mowing since we have returned from our trip, and I hope the rain eases off now.

Good afternoon Yard. A warm and lazy day today with the possibility of rain. I plan on taking it easy today.
