The recent weather events in the southeast are prime examples of WHY folks should prepare ; too many people fall into the category of "would've, could've, should've" after an event. The time to prepare is BEFORE things happen !

I think I got a lesson in that earlier in life. In the 80's there was a really bad flood in the Ozarks. Our family farm was right on the Arkansas/Missouri line.

The flood took out the one steel bridge into town and most of the low-water bridges were either gone or impassible because of high water and or debris. There was no way into anyplace in Mo.

Dad went down to help out with sandbagging, rescuing livestock cleanup, rebuilding etc. This is where most of my mother's family lived. He took some crazy risks to get there and ended up hiking in to get to the farm with some supplies.

I remember him coming back with an anger about how the government handled it.

He was expecting resources like sandbags, building supplies rescue crews, maybe some clean water and food. What they got was a single doughnut from the Red Cross. He also had to pay for the doughnut.

That's a long way of saying the only thing you can count on is your own preparedness. If you are blessed with family and friends and a community to help that's great. But self-rescue is the most likely scenario at least in the short term when things are at their worst.

If I'm good to go, It also leaves me room to help others that may have gotten a worse end of the deal.

Good evening Yard. Another nice day today ; I just hope the folks in Florida are ready for Milton.

I'm definitely praying for those in Florida. That looks like it's going to be nasty and there are people right in the pathway that can't leave. I have friends that may get hit by it. It will be close and a Friend has family members that can't leave due to medical reasons. They are really in a pickle. She is literally flat on her back fresh out of surgery and can't move with two small kids.


I got my transfer switch installed today and picked up the cord to hook up the house. In theory, I'm ready to run. I have an inspector from the state coming by tomorrow to check it out and hopefully sign off on it.

On a high note, I ordered a pocket knife yesterday and got it delivered today. I was pleasantly surprised. That doesn't happen often in rural America. Literally 25 hours after I ordered it it was on my doorstep.

Morning dogs. Just ordered Patty’s refills on 4 meds she takes. Cost us $77.00! But, that’s 3 months of each medicine.

Howdy folks. Another pretty day today and I just returned from the store. Also had to mail off auto and farm insurance payments.

I'm hoping to catch it. I missed out I was about an hour late looking for it. Some people got some amazing photographs of it locally though.

Good morning Yard. Looks like another pretty day ahead so I will be doing a few outdoor chores today.
