I definitely think a lack of personal responsibility is the core issue of all these problems. Unfortunately the people not teaching kids personal responsibility is parents. Instead of getting a butt whooping for getting trouble in class now the parents believe every little thing their kids tell them (not that thats bad within reason) and go fight with the teacher and the school board about it. What does that tell the kid, it tells him that its not his fault he was screwing around, its the teachers fault for not keeping a tighter class or whatever.
I love my daughter and will love my future children but they need to learn consequences and to take responsibility for their choices, if they don't then they're just gonna point the finger like everyone else in our society. This topic really ticks me off because like you said, everyone's going one way or the other, people are either really liberal or really conservative and that creates serious division in our society.

Oh well, at least I'll get "free" health care like they have in Cuba. I'll hide my knives and guns.

Right you are TBB. At the end of the day the decay of parental values is at the bottom of this. If the parents don't "walk the walk" just who will?
It also explains why childrens issues appear to be getting worse every generation. School teachers are now placed in the awkward (and inappropriate IMO) position of teaching the kids values instead of their parents. There are some absolutely wonderful teachers and there are some absolutely terrible teachers. Which will the child get? Does the teacher teach YOUR values?

Ummm. The Martians killed him shortly after as I remember WD. If he only liked Dolly Parton's music he would have lived.

as a person who taught high school math for the past four years, i whole-heartedly agree with and appreciate your statement. i worked with some wonderful people, but i also worked with some real losers (talking teachers here... that's just a given for the kids ).

Trad you hit the nail on the head! It's never THEIR kids fault they were the bystander not the ringleader (yeah right!). It's all about rights over here and no responsibilities..
