hahahaha...

but you do know, right, that there aren't really any people who are actually from dc?

their not??

about 570,000 people live in the city, but the population swells to 1.2 million during the work day.

i've met a few people (i've lived here for 1 year) that grew up in dc, but have moved to the burbs. they all decry the lack of children in the district. i live across from a park, so i see kids, but their parents aren't from here, and they probably won't live here their whole lives, or even into adulthood. the average "resident" lives here for 2 years. it is just a transient city, except for the poor.

teach... hahahaha... yeah, i'm not actually teaching out here (not directly anyways).

i work for a non-profit education group. i needed a break from the classroom, but i plan to return when i leave dc. teaching can burn a person out faster than anything i've ever seen.

This Indian boy goes to his mother one day with a puzzled look on his face.

"Say, mom, why is my bigger brother named "Mighty Storm"?

"Because he was conceived during a mighty storm."

"Why is my sister named "Cornflower"?

"Well, your father and I were in a cornfield, when we made her."

"And why is my other sister called "Moonchild"?

"We were watching the moon landing while she was conceived."

"Tell me, Torn Rubber, why are you so curious?"

lol! good ones <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I can understand what you mean about burning out, and being a Math teacher is probably IMO the hardest teaching job their is, your basically teaching repetition and memorizing, way hard! and as you know some kids just can't visualize the symbols and numbers! eeeeek

yeah, teaching math is difficult, but i don't envy any teacher's job. i, honestly, think that english teachers have it the roughest. would you want to read 100 crappy essays every other week or so? that's a huge investment in time outside of the school day.

alot of math is memorization, but at the higher levels (lower ones too) it is really about understanding. that was a difficult thing for me to adjust to because i learned math from teachers who emphasized memorization (like most of us on the board) but it is a different focus now.

and now for something a bit more light-hearted...

We always hear"the rules"
from the female side.

Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules!
Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports.
It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport.
And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it.
That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem.
See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.

1. If you won't dress like the Victoria's Secret girls, don't expect us to act like soap opera guys.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are.
Don 't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done.
Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color.
Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is ok!

Irish Gas Station

Taking a wee break from the golf course, Tiger Woods
drives his new Mercedes into an Irish gas station.
an attendant greets him in typical Irish manner,
unaware who the golf pro is.

"Top o' the mornin' to ya".

As Tiger gets out of the car, two tees fall out of
his pocket.

"So what are those things, laddie?" asks the
attendant.

"They're called tees, " replies Tiger.

"And what would ya be usin' em for, now?" inquires
the Irishman.

"Well, they're for resting my balls on when I drive,"
replies Tiger.

"Aw, Jaysus, Mary an Joseph!" exclaims the Irish
attendant. "Those fellas at Mercedes think of
everything"!!
