You obviously express the ethically correct position, Kraz. But I wonder how many people actually go the merchant's shop, examine alternatives, determine what they like, don't buy and then go home and purchase on the internet? I imagine the number is actually higher . . . perhaps MUCH higher . . . than those who purchase from the retailer who provided the service. good point. i don't think there are any knife shops here in utah with that good of service though. i use to shop alot at the local army navy surplus but unfortunatly they started selling some very mature items in plain view of all, including my wife and child. i would like to have a nice store here to shop at but it doesn't seem to be a big market here.

My wife gets in the moment as well and sometimes pays more than she should. That being said, if my wife wants to buy me a knife, my mouth stays shut and I let her run with it.

To be totally honest I'd buy an expensive item at the best price I could find it from a reputable supplier... BUT if my nice friendly local store had it a little higher priced but the service and attitude were good I'd buy there for the extra bit of money. If you don't support your local stores they are gone on the day you need an item RIGHT NOW to do that job you must do right now..
Bruce, I hope you enjoy your knife knowing your wife wanted you to have a memento of a nice trip (good on her!) and that you helped keep a good, local, independent store open!

There are two good knife stores I occasion. They have lots of quality knives. I would buy from them if they sold at retail. With out going into to examples, most of their knives are retail plus 15% or more. Some are unbievable. Their WH's and CRK's are in stock but make the BF secondary market look cheap. They both have been in business for a long time, so someone is buying from them. To answer the orignal question. I would and will buy retail when that is required to get what I want, or I trust the seller and I feel I have a need to trust the seller. For instance, I would trust a seller on BF that I recognize as an old timer even though they have no idea who I am and have never done business with me. I would assume the level of risk. Ron Athay

What's amazing is she decided to buy me a knife BEFORE she knocked back a 22 oz. Fat Tire Amber Ale at the Brat House!!! I must be doing SOMETHING right. Yeah man, if my wife breaks open the purse for steel, it's a good day no matter how I look at it.
