While I don't see me ever being convinced enough to change from the mini-maglite can somebody tell a bit more about these Fenix torches. Thanks I personly don't have one my Dad has the P1D CE, it is a single CR-123 lithum and and has several settings high, med, low, strobe, etc, it uses one of the the Cree LEDs, and is wicked bright and power efficient. sheck them out. https://www.fenix-store.com/index.php?osCsid=8f650de7a740be329356b86812d4cb38

This past weekend I was hanging out with Zero-Nine and had a little flashlight testing session. I compared my Surefire G2Z, Inova XO3, Inova X5, AA MiniMag LED, and Gerber LX3.
The Invova X03 was just a touch brighter than the surefire, but the surefire definately had a much cleaner light. Both use 2 123batteries but the XO being and LED has over 2x the battery life. The G2Z wins on cool points though.
The Inova X5 did a fine job. Would be great for an EDC and will be a permanent addition to my maxpedition bag. Run time of 20 hours is a big plus as well.
The AA MiniMag LED was very nice. This was a factory LED and not the conversion kit. I've had a conversion kit in the past and liked this set up much better. Would strongly encourage you to pick one up. Should be around 20$ at wally world.
The Suprise of the night was the Gerber LX3.0. It's and LED that runs off of 3 AA batteries. Good light that reached out a good ways. Run time of 50 hours is a big plus. Downside is that being a 3battery lite means it's a bit longer than the others.
Disclaimer: run times are factory specs, not actual test results. All tests were very un-scientific and conducted while smoking a cuban and drinking grand marnier.

Thank you guys for the effort I sure that the cigars were for test purposes to evaluate the light under smoky conditions fire rescue etc the grand marnier could simulate lack of stability eg using on board ships during storms Yes I can come up with an excuse for just about anything

Yeah good tips all, much appreciated and learned. I did get a Fenix L2D (2 actually) and they came yesterday <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I like! Their bigger than I thought they'd be (but still way pocket able) and have a rattle/noise when I shake/thump em but I read about that and fixed it with a tube of paper inside. It seems the smart people at Fenix understood different batteries have different thicknesses so no problem. I like the features they have and they are easy for me to use. 6 modes; Brightest, med bright, med, low, strobe, and S.O.S. Bright is way bright and more than enough for most needs. The lowest setting is just right for most things for me. It came with a shealth, lanyard, extra tail/switch cap and extra O-rings which is nice. They also sent a free keychain light that is like my innova. Over all I'm pretty excited and pleased and will post more results as I use it...

Got my new Fenix's in today. Very pleased with the workmanship and size. smaller than I expected. From what I can tell, VERY Bright. Took a second to figure out the 6 different settings. can't wait to test it out this weekend. Looks like zeronine and I will have to have another testing session. The Fenix PD3 vs his Surefire G3.

I see that TadGear has an attachment for the bezel sort of like the surefire defender. Has anyone gotten one of these?
