Oh yeah to answer your question: reguardless of the wording I will take my AR15 if I am going to be mobile. I can carry twice as much ammo with less weight and I am not restricted to FMJ ammo like the military is. Mine is loaded with bonded core softpoints and I think that raises the bar a good bit in DEFENSIVE ranges. Besides my Bushmaster with C-more sight or irons flat out shoots!

...My only problem with the Mini 14 is finding reliable and economical magazines. the new ghost rings actually seem better to me....

Sportsmans Guide had Ruger factory 20 rd mags on sale recently.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks Vic-I can't say that I have ever seen them sell a "factory" mag. Gonna have to look closer.

Correction: It wasn't Sportsman's Guide; it was the new Cheaper Than Dirt Catalog, page 28. "Original Ruger production factory magazine holds 20 rounds of .223 ammo. ..." Problem is they want $50 a piece for them.

I hope ruger has improved the mini 14......from what I remember, you could only hit the broad side of the bard.......if you threw the gun itself at the barn.

That is about right, Bramel. I did manage to get ONE that would shoot 2 MOA, but most were spray and pray at 5 to 6 MOA. My current one with the ARS heavy barrel is about 1 MOA. Ruger has redone the Mini-14 series and reports I get from shooters is that they are much more accurate.

Gheaper Than Dirt's got some cool stuff! I've got some stuff from them a few times. Their shipping cost can be a killer though...

Check out what you can buy in Canada now.

I like that MP-38...

Really solid piece of work too. I got to play with one. They build them on old germany machinery.

I hope I can eventually make it to the Knob Creek thing up in Kentucky and see some of this type stuff in action...

Battlerifle=.30 cal semi or bolt action
Assault rifle= smaller round for more controlled recoil, optimised for 400 metres or less fighting, also has the significant advantage of much more rounds per pound.

Being able to carry 3 times the cartridges as the M14 as well as a controllable full auto made the M16 the better choice.

The israeli hit teams use local capture AK's because they sound like the locals weapons and don't invite the reaction a M16 would.

My choice of a battlerifle instead of an assualt weapon is because of the terrain
and a very strict 5 round per mag limit for most rifles. There are few exceptions but one of them is the 10 rounder allowed for the Enfield which is my personal choice. Another is a Garand is allowed 8.

I would love a semi M14 clone called the Norinco M 305. They are in most people I know who have both a better gun than the Springfield and only cost 400$ to the Springfields 1000+$.

This is a very basic M305 build like I would do.

They make a great 600 metres or less sniper rifle or hunting rifle.

Sage style builds are getting popular but I find them fugly. I do love a nice Socom build all pimped out with a cool Trijicon or other nice site it's still cheaper than the bare cheapest Springfield.

Another rifle I want is a nice SKS with bayonet and a pallet of 7.62/39.

C-products are suppose to start making mini-14 mags sometime this year. They should be affordable and reliable.
