Im just wondering how all the dogs came up with there Screen names or handle names?
My name ( KnifeParty ) is the name of a song by a band called " The Deftones "
It seemed right seeing how this board is based off of a knife company =)

Some of the dogs were kidding me about my horns one day. Private Klink named me the Horn Dog. It seemed to fit.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

When I lived in the UK I worked at a Coal Mine which they call a Pit ! So when I joined BF I called myself Pitman. A lot of people thought it was to do with Pitbulls so it seemed a worthy name to also use on here !!!

I used to be a professional Mountain Biker. One message board that I frequented a lot was the Mudsluts board. It was dedicated to Mountain Bike enthuasist. One day I spelled my name like this by accident: JERRy. Another mudslutter by the name of Auger had a little fun with that and said that my name was pronounced Jerr-Why. So from there many years ago it just kind of stuck.

Mine came from a father/son bonding activity: playing World of Warcraft online. I made up the screen name Kraznog (my son's comment: sounds like Krazy EggNog) and have stuck with it for several years. Now I just shorten it to Kraz even though I don't get to play WoW much anymore.

I like Jeeps. I think the Jeep Wrangler slightly lifted with quality shocks and springs is the best off road car/truck ever produced.

The first forum I signed up for there was a silly FBI show on in the background and they must have said the word "Unsub" about 30 times per scene and when it asked for a name it was right at the top of my brain. Several years ,dozens of forums and meeting thousands of people I am kindoff wishing I had maybe put a bit more thought into it. It seems like I use it more than my real name.
The show was "Criminal Minds", it took me a while to remember.

I away knew I'd get a chance to tell this story some day. Thanks for starting this thead Knifeparty!
In 2000 I went to Tom Brown's Tracker school. I was really into Native American philosophy and The Tracker School really seamed to reinforce a lot of what I had read and learned up to that point. It may seam crazy to some but Tom's books and teachings had a very deep and lasting affect on me. Not too long after coming back from Tom's school my father became very ill and had to be hospitalized and required very serious surgery, things did not look too good. He was in intensive care and I tried to spend as much time as I could at the hospital, but I still had to work. The hospital was only about a mile away from my work so sometimes I would walk to the hospital on an extended lunch break. On one particularly nice early fall day I decided to make the walk to the hospital. I was about 1/3 to 1/2 way there when I was caught in a very unexpected and pretty intence rain shower. I was not prepaired having only warn a light wind breaker. But instead of finding cover, I was stuck with the most profound feeling of what I can only explain as an almost spiritual feeling. That may seam goofy but we've all had experiences like this at one time or another. So instead of getting wet I felt the rain on a much deeper level and began to laugh uncontrolably it must have looked quite strange to the people and cars that I passed. I made it to the hospital completely drenched but with the most profound feeling of comfort. At that point I knew my dad would be OK and that no matter what happened everthing would always find a way of working out. That walk had the most profound effect on me that has lasted to this very day i will never be the same. It's funny too because my father had always had a say that I grew up hearing, "some people just don't have since enough to get in out of the rain". From that day forward I had a new saying, "some people feel the rain, others just get wet". Now I find myself from time to time drawn to a good rain shower. There's just nothing like getting out and playing in the rain.
So anyway, shortly after that experience I needed a screen name for something and the answer was clear as a bell to me. You might even say the name picked me instead of me picking the name.
You might even say that "Rainwalker" has become my given name. It's not what my wife and kids call me but it's become a very close second to my birth name.
Sorry if this story seams too goofy or too sappy, I've alway wanted the opportunity to tell it though and I hope it has given some food for thought. Sometimes the most profound things can happen in the most mundane circumstances, sometimes they're obvious sometime their not.
So that's the story of my name hope you enjoyed it... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Great story Jeff! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> I think I told mine before, but here goes:
When I enlisted in the Marines back in 1968, Hogan's Heroes was still popular on television. My SSgt. Drill Instructor noticed a vague similarity between my name and Colonel Klink from the show. He was certainly not going to call me Colonel Klink, but dubbed me Private Klink. I had not used that until I joined Swamp Rat five years ago, and decided to use that for my screen name. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Tom

Your story resonates with me Rainwalker.
I lived in Oregon for 10 years and absolutely loved the rain. I always felt the rain cleansed the earth while replenishing it and has a deep spirtual value. I was a big fisherman when I lived in Oregon and on many mornings the smell of the cleansed air and the sound of the water running in the rapids made me really feel that spirtual connection to the earth and our ancestors. When you see the giant Douglas firs, the lush vegetation, the low fog over the river, the beaver heading out of their den, and the steelhead rolling on the surface...our connectedness with the earth and nature just seems obvious. It is very hard to describe...your description of calmness seems apt.

I only fished from a boat a couple times when I lived OR so I unfortunately have no connections with the boats/guides WD. The little boat fishing I did was with a buddy for sturgeon in the Columbia. It reminded me of fishing for VERY BIG catfish <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I am a river fisherman by heart, mind, and disposition. Give me a clear fast running river, some waders, and a fishing pole and I am a very happy man. The Deschutes river is one of my favorite places on the planet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

I had to get off the computer and go outside for a few minutes........it felt great! wow rainwalker! somebody up there likes you bro!!!

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> A great and profound story. Thanks for sharing Dan

Thanks Rainwalker I really liked reading your story. I find that a lot of knoledge from primitive cultures have a lot of value and truth. When I worked at the local army surplus we also sold traps and bought furs so I met a lot of really cool old indian trappers (and one really nice young one)and they really knew their stuff. They knew good blades and I sold them a bunch of moras I made my boss buy. We had 2 kinds of axes cheap crappy chinese ones with fibreglass handles and nice but expensive Oxheads. Those old guys would all do the same thing and flick the blade with their finger. The Oxheads had a great heat treat and rang like a fine bell while the chinese ones thudded and even sounded bad. It was really neat how these old guys could tell a good blade without knowing anything about which are the cool super steels or big names or even without seeing the price.

Messer-"knife" in German. My favorite word all the years I took German in High School and College. German because oF MY gERMAN HERITAGE.
454-The number of knives I had from a collection starting as a kindergartner. I started selling them first to buy Spydercos but last year I became addicted to the Busse family. -I also have always wanted a .454 Casull but that interst has sorta wained due to a limited 1 week deer gun hunting season in Ohio.

Mine is pretty much self expanatory. Kept it from other forums, including backpacking and hiking. I am a lightweight gear geek. I could not find gear light enough to hike with so I made my own tent, stove, sleeping bag, and shirt. Now lightweight gear is more common. However, if I purchase equipment at the store for hiking, I take a scale with me. Told ya I was a geek.
Rainwalker - nice story. I know several people that have taken the Tom Brown courses. All have liked the experience.

When I was 18 at college I pledged/joined a Fraternity. It was winter time, I always wore my leather jacket, smoked a lot of cigarettes, and cussed like a sailor - One of the guys commented that I reminded him of Dice Clay, and Diceman stuck.

Have you ever been somewhere where there was not a stick or rock? I assume you are carrying a knife to shape the stick appropriately. Ditch the spork and spare yourself it's opressive weight. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I saw a really cool lighthiker piece of homeade gear I plan to reproduce myself. It was a military rain poncho with some cut down fibrglass tent poles that made a tiny one person tent(no floor) and weighed next to nothing.
I think the whole light gear thing is not about leaving gear behind. You could just take a knife and a lighter and make a fire but that is not nearly as cool as having the latest lightest MSR stove.
My minimalist emergency kit is a bic lighter or firesteel, mora and some water purification tablets. I sealed one in a foodsaver bag and duct taped it to my life jacket. They are cheap enough to stash everywhere.

I knew my wife's family since I was in grade 3, one of her brothers and I went to school together. When we started going out one of her natural brothers and one of her foster brothers were my best friends (I was 18 at the time) Her dad was a big old ex-cowboy who when he found out we were going out said. "All these years I've been baring the front door against those wolves and you sneak in the back door with the yard dogs like a dirty coyote" of course he pronounced it Ki-yote. For many of my close friends it is the name they know my by. On some forums I am known as coyote but most of the forums I joined in the last two years it is coyotebc, because many of them already had a coyote on there so I added BC because I live in British Columbia (BC)
By the way just turned 42 last month and the wife and I have been married for over 19 years

It takes work, but nothing worth having comes easy, and I've found the more you work at it the easier it becomes. you can't make a knife in 5 minutes and expect it to last a lifetime, so it shouldn't be a suprise that it is the same with other things.
By the way just turned 42 last month and the wife and I have been married for over 19 years Wow another great story congrats on the 19yrs of marrage. That is a good story! Congrats on 19 years too. I've been married for going on 26 years I fear we are in the minority these days, a lot of marriages just don't last that long these days. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> It's always good to here of more that are. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Congrats on the 26 years. It takes work, but nothing worth having comes easy, and I've found the more you work at it the easier it becomes. you can't make a knife in 5 minutes and expect it to last a lifetime, so it shouldn't be a suprise that it is the same with other things. Like I tell my wife, she should never argue with me because we both know I have better taste. She picked me I picked her nuff said <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Well said coyotebc... I agree nothing that's easy last very long...Quality takes time and work no matter what is is. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I was never given to hard core faith or going to church since I was 12 and got confirmed. After that I started staying home on Sundays. Mom and Dad would toddle off every Sunday like clockwork to do their Christian duty at church.Dad sang in the choir and Mom was in every garden Club, or womens Circle that ever was. She was always willing to take a meal to a sick member or visit someone in the hospital. She was just plain good. Big heart my Mom had. Never made a person able to say a bad word about her ever. She got Cancer of the cervix several years ago. Hospice was her only option. As I would visit my Sisters home and talk with Mom I realized she was dying. Silly right? One day it just hit me. I was holding her hand as she lay in bed. looking up her ashen skin cool to the touch. Her bright hazel eyes had gone dim and grey. She held me hand and said to me "I've always loved hummingbirds. And when I am gone if I have a choice...I'll come back as one for a while." I stroked her hair back from her face and told her thank you for sharing that with me. I never knew you like Hummingbirds. I finished my visit soon after. She turned for the worse a few days later and she went to sleep and died a few days after that.
I loved my Mother.
I was born on September 9th 1957 at 9:09 a.m. Mom always liked that unique sequence of 9's and so did I .She would ALWAYS wish me a Happy Birthday on 9-9 at 9:09 a.m. my entire adult life. At home, work, on the road traveling it didn't matter. She'd call like clockwork and sing me Happy Birthday. Little things mean everything. She died on April 6th and was buried on the 9th. My 9. On that September 9th at about 8:55 I came from the bedroom into the living room of our home tears streaming down my face. I realized that Mom wouldn't be calling ever again. I cried in my wifes arms till my face hurt from the contortions of pain. As the minuets went by she kept reassuring me that Mom was watching down on me and that I would always be her baby boy.As I saw it turn into 9:09 on the cable box I began to sob uncontrollably. My wife held me and wept too. All of the sudden she screamed OH GOD! I said what through my wrenching pain. Look was all she could say. There in front of our living room window on September 9th at 9:09 a.m. was a Hummingbird. Not just a hummingbird, but the most beautiful Hummingbird I had ever seen in my life.It was bright green with a bright red chest. It floated in front of the window as if held on a string. Motionless she watched us through the window. As if from God himself my mouth opened and I screamed Mom. Shaking from head to toe and in hysterics I began to praise God and thank Jesus for sending my Mother to me one more time. I praised God and Jesus over and over again. I called to my mother and told her we were alright, and I loved her so much. I thanked her over and over again for loving me and being my mother. After floating in mid air for all my thanks to be given, she finally turned and flew straight up and away.
It was now 9:12 a.m. She hovered there for three minuets. It seemed like an hour. I was never so emotionally drained ever before in my life.
We went to a local church that Sunday. My wife Sherry and I now teach the 7th and 8th grade class for 5 years now. We are also the custodians there. And have found that there is more to this life of ours than we can see with our eyes.
There is a whole world we will only ever see with our hearts.
I have taken the name Prince of Peace on all knife forums as my way to bring some notice and thought to the one who opened my eyes when they were shut. And to his Father who had the keys to my heart and opened up a new world to me.
Eyes and heart wide open,
Peace.

Mine came from a father/son bonding activity: playing World of Warcraft online. I made up the screen name Kraznog (my son's comment: sounds like Krazy EggNog) and have stuck with it for several years. Now I just shorten it to Kraz even though I don't get to play WoW much anymore. Lew, If you had any idea how many hours my family and I have invested in Diablo II Lord of Destruction <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> you would never tak to me again. It is insane. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> My wife even has a maxed out level 99 Amazon. That's how bad we are. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> Peace.

wonderful stories. Mine is not so inspiring.
My last name is Wolf. Lupa means alpha female of the pack. There is another well known term for it that I am affectionately called by my dear brother, but I like to keep it clean.

Back when I was younger (guess im still pretty young compared to some of you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" />) I was watching a kevin smith movie and heard the word snooch. I was curious as to what it meant (at the time being ignorant) and looked it up in the dictionary, I never found the word. What I did find however was snook - A gesture of derision or defiance. I fell in love with it and have been using it ever since, which has been close to 10 years now, I even have a tattoo with snook above ¿? which is a symbol that I've used for myself and my band.

at the moment im on a solo project playing a rock/folk style of music and also play in an indie band that seems to be going off course because we can never get jam time together. My previous bands were punk rock and metal. The myspace for my personal project is one of the whole but I'm gonna re-record all the songs I have today hopefully because I really did a poor job on vocals for the songs, kinda blew my voice out trying to sing another song the day before most of the recordings.

Cool, I miss jamming and playing shows. I don't miss trying to gather everyone for practice. I played in a handful of bands in San Diego in the 90's. I played bass, mostly punk ala Misfits, Minor Threat etc but some metal and blues.

I am so bumping this. I know there are at least a handful of new dogs since the last post was made, and some of these stories are truly inspirational. mine...not so much. for a long time I had the chronically nerdy hobby of making new e-mail accounts, just to see which words hadn't already been taken in their virgin form. it sort of spilled over into making accounts for message boards, and I ended up with din. I like it, it's a loud noise, it's short, it's easy to remember. it's stuck with me for a while, on fountain pen forums, shaving forums, climbing forums, and now knife forums.

Waggling the fingers is an optional intensifier. The gesture is also called a Five Fingered Salute and - for reasons obscure to me - Queen Anne's Fan.

My name originates in a philosopher joke. That sounds like a contradiction in terms. Philosophers are not known for a lively sense of humor.
It happened this way. One day in the agora, Plato was discussing the whichness of why with his disciples. Somebody asked, “What is a man?” Plato replied “Man is a featherless biped.” That sounds silly, but it’s not the joke.
The joker was Diogenes. Personally I wouldn’t look to Diogenes for a sense of humor. He was a sour and embittered sort, even for a philosopher. But he was the original Cynic, so what can you expect? The next day Diogenes replied to Plato's definition by bringing a living plucked [censored] to the Academy. Diogenes threw the naked – and thoroughly irritated - bird in front of Plato and asked "Is this a man, then?"
Now you know why professors of philosophy don't make good stand-up comics. Plato amended his definition to “Man is a featherless biped with broad nails.”
If you tell this story in Latin, "featherless biped" is animal bipes implume .

As a young guy in Chicago, I played pool about 12-14 hours a day. I liked to play in different pool rooms, on both the North and South sides. I once entered a small room containing only three tables. The canvas awning over the window said, "Omar's Style Salon." I guess it was once a hair processing parlor. Anyway, it turns out I was the only white guy in the place...maybe the only white guy within five miles. Well, I sat on a stool and watched games in progress and trying to identifiy someone whose aquaintence I should make. As the only white guy, I naturally was an object of curiousity. I withstood the stares and glances of the other patrons. I was a little frightened, but knew I could not show fear, so I just stood my ground and focused on pool. Finally, a guy asked me to shoot some nine ball with him and the tension immediately eased.
Having survived this initial experience, I added "Omar's" to my list of places I would go from time-to-time. After a while, I became one of the guys and they called me White Willie, to distinguish me from other Willies I guess.
My screen name, Willieboy, is a derivative of White Willie.

I am really enjoying these stories, gents.
As for me, I've been trying to sniff out a Scrap Yard knife to buy sometime relatively soon, ergo Scrapper Hound.
When I was 19 or 20 (I'm 35 now) someone started calling me "Kevdog" and it stuck for a while. For the life of me I can't figure out why I didn't think of if when registering here. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />
That's okay. I think I like Scrapper Hound better. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Actually it's a mix of my name. My first name and the first three letters of my last name. I even have a personalized tag with it on it. So if you see "jackell" on a tag honk and say hello. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Eyes and heart wide open,
Peace. Awesome.Very glad I got to read this.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Another good one, thanks Rainwalker

Mine is pretty simple. Its my actual name. Its kinda funny that my name is inspired by one of my favorite bands. Or perhaps they are one of my favorites because my name is similar to them Steely Dan. And its also kinda funny that my name is close to what is currently my favorite thing to collect Steel haha.

I've been a member of different survivalist boards, and people at those sites have all sorts of arm-chair-commando screen names which I find to be a little "mall ninja-like".
Therefore, I chose to shorten what I do for a living to "Arch"...in an attempt to not sound pretentious by using "Architect".
However, people thought my name real name was Archie (which it is not) so when I left those forums (after years of intense contribution <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> ) I started using "Architect" when I joined the next round of forums.

Mine is fairly simple actually...I like the band Slipknot and so I just reversed the two words to get KnotSlip. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I've yet to find it used anywhere else by anyone.

Mine is my email address, but it comes from my initials and my clock number at the time I made it up. Nothing special or symbolic there.

Oh man, I don't remember ever hearing POP's story and of course have never heard Jeff's.
They both brought tears to my eyes I am UNashamed to say. VERY nice, touching stories that are more than Just stories.
Thanks Guys, for the boost.
I've said it before, but for the new guys here it is again, the condensed version.
One summer we had a VERY bad Skunk problem in our little two block area. I killed a total of I think 9 skunks that year, summer into fall and 1 in early winter. It might have been 11 total, I don't remember. Anyway I used an RWS Diana model 45 .177 pellet rifle. One shot to the head and no more problem. Longest shot I made was about 20-25 yards.
Now you know about the SKUNKHUNTER <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I am big fan of the science fiction genre. I figured there are too many Trekkies and Star Wars fans out there, so I conjured up a show I used to watch as a kid during the early to mid 1980's, which was Doctor Who, with Tom Baker in the role of the Doctor. The Doctor belonged to alien race known as the Timelords, since they were not limited by space and time. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Awesome stories here
PoP- I just about jumped out of my chair reading your story. Absolutely beautiful! That's one of those things that you read in Reader's Digest that makes you feel good inside. Sounds like your Mom was a wonderful woman, even after she left her body to join her God!
Mine... well... The original Nickname came from a weekend I spent at my best friends house when I was alot younger. His Grandmother made the most amazing Chili, loaded with jalepenos and cayanne pepper, and she seasoned it with ground Habenaro... I ate a lot of it that evening.
The rest of the story is more or less self explanatory.
I changed it to El Cacafuego when I started browsing forums that wouldn't allow me to use my original nic. Still find the occasional handle monitor that won't let me get away with this one either.

And Yeah we DID have a bad problem. I got 4 one night on the way to work, Momma and 3 younger ones. The were getting into trash, spraying peoples houses and animals and generally being pests. Oh I only had one to spray, slightly. Only lasted for a couple minutes.

Now you know about the SKUNKHUNTER <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> the real reason behind the name, sort of a last act of defiance. lol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

sar5, you know you're perpetually the last one to register for swamp rat forums?
registration to that forum has been closed for some time.
