When I was about 17 I totaled 2 cars inside of about two weeks. I wasn't doing anything crazy I just wasn't paying attention behind the wheel. The worst I got was a busted up lower lip that a plastic surgeon spent a lot of time repairing; today I've only got a small scar that's barley noticeable. It's been 20 years since and I've never so much as been in a fender bender.

Here's hoping that Andy made it through alright.

Can I see the other blades somwhere? Because i've been waiting for so long on buying a howling rat (with res c) but swamprat just changed the line. I heard scrapyard has a similar one, but i cant see it anywhere.

Here’s some pics from the last Blade show that were posted on Swamp Shack:

Ouch! So far I've never turned a car over... I did rip a wheel off once though at about 50 mph!

Something kinda like that happened to my Grandma when she was leaving our house. Got a mile or two down the road, and broke a tie rod and it dropped her car. She said it made a shower of sparks, and it gouged the hell out of the road.

And you wanna hear a bad story about flipping a car…when my Dad was younger, he had a (I believe it was a) 1961 Corvette. He hit a patch of black ice. He spun, flipped it, and it tore the truck lid off among other damage. I’d hate to roll a car THAT nice.

Is Andy OK? I have not heard anything and hope he is all right!

I’m fine, nothing going on here. We never did get any real snow all winter. All we got was a light dusting that melted as soon as the sun came up. I’ve been waiting some thick snow so I can take some winter pics. Although, I did have a “winter incident” this evening that was a major pain. I went to Elwood to get some things. We’ve had some heavy rain recently, and there’s one spot where it completely covered the country road about 6” deep. I came across it at night a couple days ago and didn’t see it until it was too late almost to brake. I couldn’t slow down enough, and tried to keep the wheel straight as I hit it, afraid I’d hydroplane into a phone pole at 60+ mph. I slid a little bit as I hit it, but not too bad. My heart was racing though, cause I thought I could die and wasn’t sure until it was over.

Since that day, the temp dropped and it’s been around 30. As I was again traveling that road tonight, this time I remembered the spot. They did have high water signs right before it, but because of the slight hills, you can’t see it until you’re almost right on top of it, especially at night. Well, this time I slowed down, and as I approached I saw that it was frozen and jagged, where people had broke through the ice as they drove, and it refroze jagged. I didn’t approach it slowly enough however, and hit it going about 30 or so. I tried to steer around to the shallowest spot as I approached, but the ice was splashed back farther than I realized, and that caused me to slide when I hit it, and I went sideways sliding across the road over the ice. As I was doing so, I noticed several people had done the same, as there were several sets of tire tracks where people had slid off the road.

One of the people I saw had ran over the high water sign as they slid off the road, knocking it face down flat where it couldn’t be seen. I quickly realized that someone coming the other way speeding wouldn’t see the sign until it was too late, and I thought they might brake too hard too late and slide into a pole and die. As soon as I was off the ice, I hit the brake so I could get out and fix the sign and possibly save someones life. As I hit the brake though, I lost the grip on my 44 oz foam cup of tea from the gas station, causing my thumb to go through it and it started leaking all over myself and my Dad’s 2004 Dodge Ram, all over the leather seats.

I get out and try to tip the cup sideways so it quits leaking, and look in the backseat for an empty cup I can pour my drink into to save it. All I can find is an empty 2 liter jug. I took the top off and tried pouring it, but the ice in the cup since it was floating on top kept plugging the 2 liter mouth. Plus as I was trying to pour, it was still leaking out of the thumb hole. I only managed to save like a cup out of the 44 oz. The rest was on me, the truck, and the ground as I tried to pour it. All the while, I’m trying to watch both ways, because I’m parked in the middle of the road and out of the truck standing in the road. If someone comes, I knew they’d see me, try to hit the brakes, hit the ice, then slide into me and probably kill me.

After I salvaged what I could of my green tea, I fixed the sign and continued on. I was very frustrated, because the reason I got the tea is I caught a horrible cold from my Dad, and I have a really bad sore thoat among other things. None of that would have happened to me if I wasn’t trying to do a good thing and help prevent someones injury or death. Because of it, I had a horrible mess everywhere, and lost my tea when I have a sore throat and cold. *sigh*

..from image name i gather they refer to it as ScrapHowlerMedium
which looks Very similar to Swamp Rat Knive's old HR w/ Resiprene (which has been replaced by Swamp Rat's HRLM w/ Micarta)

Gravelface,
Have you tried Swamp Rat's current HRLM? or their previous Howling Rat resiprene?
their 3/16" thick blades are pretty darn substantial.
waddya plan on tackling with your ~4" knife? railroad box cars?!

iirc.. i've seen Battle Rats sell on the BF Exchange for ~$195-$200 (shipped. add ~3% for Paypal). And folks on there said that was the Low end of the spectrum.
