Plus it's easy to repair.

I see a huge market for user-replaceable micarta scales, especially for exotic-looking ie snake, tiger, etc.
I see them for many Beckers.. come with different length screws, etc.
riveted micarta can be drilled out.
res-c knives only have 1 rivet though.. that might be a problem.

re: sharp drill

oh getting the 1 rivet out would be easy..
but only having 1 screw holding the micarta.. ?
..i'm thinkin might have to drill 1 or 2 more holes thru tang to hold the micarta in place.
..although i've heard of folks using epoxy.

But, micarta doesn't NEED repair.

Yeah, I always thought that would be cool. Micarta, or some other exotic material like the stuff from the custom shop. Fancy wood, horn, ivory, mastadon ivory, etc.

PK, yep you are right,res-C scores highly on the penguin scale!! Micarta may be more durable in that it lasts longer than res-C, but that's because anyone with the choice of a res-C or micarta backed chopper leaves the micarta one in the truck or tool box (or shop..) and actually uses the res-C!

The FBM is very (VERY) nice but put res-C on it and finally you get something you can use without numbing your hand after three or four strikes.. If anyone was planning to micarta a res-C knife then you need help!

I was surprised how "hard" the handle is. MUCH less give than a std Busse/SRKW/Scrapyard Res-C handle. It's probably pulled fairly tight and that's the reason. It's a bit less tacky for the same reason. I like it, but it's different than I expected it to be.

And the hawk has a bit more “battle scars” now. That was before the hood test.
