It's very appropriate for the Scrap Yard, 100% mutt.

Imbel gear logo receiver (metric) from Century's last batch.

Imbel lower from a South African kit.

Cut down STG barrel.

Tapco furniture, stripper clip top cover and muzzle brake.

FSE folding charging handle.

South African Inch style bolt and bolt carrier.

It shoots too low with a metric rear sight so I'm using an inch style folding rear sight (when I'm not using a SUIT).

It also has a fixed 10 round magazine thanks to the CA DOJ.

The right arm of the free world.

There is a battle pack of South African and a bandolier of Aussie 7.62*51.

Not my best toy.

That's the plan, I just have to find the time.

As for my best toy, I have a thing for period correct Imported FAL's and replicas.

I only have a couple but one of them has received high praise from people that see a whole lot of FAL's.

Here's a small hint; mine is not sear cut, but nearly identical FAL's with the sear cut were built to kill terrorists.

sweet.. so the Infi logo is actually engraved Into the steel? not just "painted" on? (for lack of better word).

Nice FN.. you're right Calif gun laws suck donkey balls.
My Century FN had the 20-rnd detachable mags.. but thumbhole stock.. thought of doing what you did.. but liked having 20-rnds more <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Tony, check out the laws more carefully.

The DOJ now considers a thumbhole stock to be the same as a pistol grip, as in your once legal Century FAL is now an Evil AW.

By the way, mine was never a Century FAL, they just imported the receiver and I did the rest.

Alas, I sold my FN.
you're right, the [censored] gun laws here change more often than the seasons.

it was cool when folks would come up & say.. nice assault rifle.. what is it?

then i tell 'em 7.62x51.. this is a Battle rifle.. it eats assault rifles for breakfast <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
well.. at least in terms of penetration & long range tag <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Battle rifle's and bowie's rule!
Your streetwalker looks less "pock marked" than I heard Busse knives were under the coat. It is going to look awesome when it is finished.

I was moved to tears when I heard my government destroyed 20 000 FALs(C1A1's I think the canadian C designation is confusing)The soldiers who had to use them hated them because they were old and to long for clearing buildings.
I love the FAL both for it's history, it was used by both sides in the Falklands war, and as the basis for a nice custom rifle. There is a great article about newschool FALs in the G$A tactical guns and gear issue.
One of the only gun laws that is better in canada is we can get some great norinco M14 clones new for 300$US. They are nowhere as nicly finished as the springfields but if you like to do your own gunsmithing projects (I would guess Oddball does) they make a great basis for a custom battle rifle.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember getting told the L1A1 SLR (British FN Fal) was an assault rifle... Albeit no good for clearing houses unless you just shot straight through the walls! Styling wise I prefer the M14 (I must admit) as it's less full on military.

Great collection though!!

Oh no!! that's a darn shame!
yeah for long shots across desert plains 7.62 nato >> 5.56
dammit.. instead of destroying they shoulda commissioned a shorter variant.. or something.
So what's Canada using now for a rifle?

That is correct. The logo's are laser etched, so it goes through the coating and into the steel

I saw pictures of a whole room full of unused G1's that were destroyed a few months back.

I have handled a few M1A's and they are nice but they are much more expensive and much harder to build your own. The only advantage is their stock. In CA that lets you use detachble magazines but you can't buy magazines larger than 10 rounds.

If I could walk in to a gun store and buy a real Springfield Armory M14 or a real FN FAL, I would probably leave with a FAL.

My first MBR was a Garand and it's a nice rifle. I wanted to get a few more from the CMP but before I could, I bought a FAL and now I rarely think about CMP Garands.

It's just like my first Swamp Rat. I have had other nice knives but I haven't bought any knife beside Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard since then.

I had a similar set up but with wooden furniture up front. Ditch the Thumbhole rear with a STG58 rear. Seen it in action all over the world, particularly in the boonies with the GHKs, I like it over my previous HB HK SR91. I'll get some pics up once I get time. Great shooter for BR, not in the Sniper grade though!

hmm.. just now i thought.. wonder why "bling" hasn't hit rifles.
I mean there's all manner of presentation grade nickel-plated gov't models, fancy engraved stainless revolvers, le/satin knives.. etc.
but i've never seen a Bling'ed up shiny rifle! ok.. i've seen polished up 10-22 plinkers.. but i'm talkin real rifle.
maybe cause riflemen are more serious ?

FN has made some FAL's with real bling.

Most of them wound up in the Middle East.

Churchill received a very nice engraved FAL when he retired.

Winchester has a very long history of finely engraved lever action rifles like the one of one hundred and one of one thousand.

Some big game hunters use highly engraved bolt action rifles.

Sporting shotguns often have engravings, gold trim and finely crafted wood.

Then there is Mall Ninja bling, an AR with everything "tactical insert part name here".

I have been thinking about NP3 plating a FAL. It's very corrosion resistant and self lubricating but it might be too much bling for me.

I guess I can try it out. If I don't like it, I'll paint it. I hope paint can stick to NP3.

if it's functional.. it's not bling.

tidbit i learned last month..
Clyde (of Bonnie & ) was very fond of Browning BAR's.. a Serious piece of ordnance even today. He carried a cut-down one under his trenchcoat, and another in the vehicle.. which prolly explains why they were able to shoot their way out of (thru?) road blocks so effectively!

A cut down BAR must weigh at least 14-15 lbs. I wouldn't want to carry it very far.

The FAL packs about the same power in about half the weight. It's fine for single shots but almost uncontrolable full auto. There are some heavy barrel FALs that split the weight difference. I hear they work pretty well on a bipod.

If you need more fire power than that, you have to step up to something like a M-60, MG-42 or 1919A4 belt fed beast.

The canadian forces have C7's and C8's which are nice AR series rifles and well regarded by the troops especially the C8.

Bling was invented by and for guns. Nickel plating and ivory grips. For the best or worst of bling guns check out what the US army confiscated from Saddams kids.
Gold krinkov(custom cut down)AK's with nike symbols and even worse.

If you could go into a gunshop and get a rougher but just as reliable and accurate
norinco M14 for 300$ or a FAL what would it be?

As much as I like the 7.62 I agree with the armys reasoning for going to 5.56.
You can carry so much more ammo and if you have to engage targets out past 300meteres all units have something way better than a FAL like rifle grenades or sniper rifles ,heavier weapons or even airstrikes and artilery. The soviets had units where everyone had a AK74 except the best shot had a SVD so a basic infantry unit could have more range. A FAL would have been exelent in this role as well.

Well if the U.S. hadn't forced NATO to adopt the 7.62*51 they would have used an FN designed 7mm round with superior long range ballistics, lighter weight and a smaller, lighter version of the FAL to go with it.

That sounds a whole lot like the 6.5mm Grendel which might just replace the 5.56 in the AR.

And for the reliability of a Norinco, Ha!

The FAL is famous for reliability. It has a better record than the real M14. And Norinco's are known for heat treat problems (in the bolts I think).

When a FAL does break, everything is easy to fix. A lot easier than my Garand and the M14 is ~based on the Garand.

Accuracy is a point that I can't speak about since I don't own a Norinco. I just know that my FAL is more accurate than I am. I can't ask for more than that.

fascinating.. haven't heard about the Grendel till now.. will have to check it out in depth.

6.5 Grendel. it’s a relatively new 6.5x39 cartridge based roughly on the Russian 7.62x39. It was designed to give AR10 ballistics in an AR15 package. Originally designed around a 123gr Lapua Scenar (.547 BC) launched at 2610 fps in a 24" barrel, the 6.5 Grendel can shoot flatter and drift less in wind at 800 yards than the .30-06’s heir: 7.62 NATO M80, M852, and M118LR.

The real truth is that it is very very rare for a soldier to take a shot at more than 600 yards.

Every 7mm round that FN developed for the FAL project had more than enough energy at 600 yards.

Then The U.S. complained that the tragectory wasn't flat enough so FN streched the case and suddenly they were zipping through steel helmets at 1,100+ yards.

Then the U.S. complained that they didn't have enough muzzle energy...

The AR was just a toy that the Air Force bought for their MP's guarding air bases. That might be the reason mall security guards like them so much.

My time in the Army made me DESPISE the 5.56. After an armed disagreement with some local rabble rousers, a certain shot between the shoulders and several inches higher left the fellow in pain...for about 7 hours before he went to his 72 virgins in the sky. That round is worthless in my opinion and I wouldn't shoot it to save my friends life. I would sooner see my sister in a cat house than own a 5.56 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

but i've never seen a Bling'ed up shiny rifle! ok.. i've seen polished up 10-22 plinkers.. but i'm talkin real rifle.
maybe cause riflemen are more serious ?

If you could go into a gunshop and get a rougher but just as reliable and accurate
norinco M14 for 300$ or a FAL what would it be?

I've been searching for that gunshop for years but haven't found it. If you find it, please let me know where! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

re: 5.56

well it's good to see cartridge development take advantage of advances in powder.
Bad when experiments involve users' lives.
It's interesting seeing brand-spankin new revolvers with cylinder dimensions determined by a cartridge.. length of which was determined by black powder back in the 1800s!

so stuff like 6.5 Grendel.. it's good to see they're taking into account cartridge/powder advances AND desired end performance.

As much as I like the 7.62 I agree with the armys reasoning for going to 5.56.

I think you you should stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel.

Your comment does mean a lot since you saw it in action.

It is in canada because you can't get chinese rifles or ammo in the US.

The early norincos had heat treatment problems but that has been sorted for a long time. If you are interested the CGN(canadian gun nutz)board has a battlerifle forum that has been basically taken over by the norinco 305. I am more of a bolt action/standard transmision guy myself.I am not a big fan of Jeff Cooper but I love the scout rifle concept. The only rifle I own qualifies. It is a Parker Hale
enfield and the fastest smoothest bolt action as well as the only rifle in canada
allowed 10 round mags. One of these days I am going to take a bubbaed enfield
and build a synthetic socom 16 type bolt gun. The 303 might not seem like the best choice but here in canada it is still very popular andavailable at every rural gas
station. I considered an israeli mauser or FR8 but then you only get 5 rounds.
A black synthetic jungle carbine would make a heck of a truck gun.

.303 brit is nothin to sneeze at.. ballistics are just a little shy of .308 nato.
best thing is price of the rifles!
few years back.. there was a whole boat load of surplus .303 Lee Enfields starting at ~$80 !

I'm not sure how much I like sporterized military bolt actions.

You can get a nice, brand new rifle with about 80 years more development for about the same price as a good sporterized rifle.

Then you are not stuck with an old cartridge, scope mounts are not an issue, warrantys may be available, etc.

I wouldn't mind owning a nice Enfield or 1903 or Mauser 98 but I would leave it stock and buy a new bolt action if I had to hump it around the woods and hit what I'm aiming at.

I always wanted to build something like this for a truck gun. An AK-47 pistol, made from a ~$200 AMD-65 AK parts kit. If you buy one already made, they cost about $600. But if you make it yourself, it’d only cost a few hundred. If you made the receiver, (from scratch or an 80% finished one) it could also be sterile if you desire with no markings or serial numbers. (And yes, it’s legal) High power and high capacity, and since it’s legally a pistol, I could carry it open or concealed with my Indiana carry permit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

oddball,
oh man your Street Walker pic thread got Crapped on!
it got waaaay off topic!

1. Do you EDC that naked Infi SS4?
2. Have you had problems w/ rust/patina forming an that exposed Infi?
3. Did you polish it up? Left it raw Infi dimples? (i kinda like that, but heard they rust)
4. How does that naked Infi feel & work for you?
5. Would you do it again?

Hey over on BF.. there's nice pics of a Bead Blasted CT that looks SWEET!
http://bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449752

I've been messing with the handle on my SS4..
http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=12141

..and now i'm Strongly considering what You did!
But i'm kinda on the fence.. since I wanna EDC my SS4 concealed and think the coating may be better for that role.

1. Not really, I have a white collar job in California. I hardly ever need a knife and EDC might scare the sheeple.

2. No problems, I have been keeping it in my car, I'll consider keeping it in my shower to increase the humidity.

3. Not yet, but it's in the plans.

4. It works fine, very little difference.

5. I might do a set of four but I am going to wait and see how the first one polishes up.

Yeah, you never know when someone could go all “Psycho” on you in a shower. You’re never more defenseless than when you’re naked. Better to be prepared and take them by surprise! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

When I saw "street walker," I was a little afraid to open this thread.

Luckily, it was just a stripper.

Get it? Stripper? Stripped knife? Both have "strip" in them?

Oh, forget it.

Real street walkers are not very photogenic.

Some of them are not even female.

This is just what I have observed driving down Hollywood Blvd.

oddball,
those pics i'm drawn to them.. that raw Infi just looks so.. elemental.
oh man.. i wanna do that to my SS4.

but.. no way to keep the logo if you finish it off completely huh?
bead blasting, mirror polish.. that would basically wipe out logo, i assume.

Yes the logo would be gone, but I have a plan:

http://www.techshop.ws/take_classes.html

If I can figure out their 25 watt laser, I can put the logo back on.

oh oh wait.. nother plan..
someone put 3-4 layers of (i wanna say) Duct Tape over the logo (i think).. before bead-blasting.. and it preserved the logo (i think).

shoot, i'm gonna try dig up the link to that thread.. BRB..

That'd be cool to do it yourself. Or, you could always have it done.
