TradBowBoy recommended the Fort Turner hawks to me. I will hopefully pick one up soon. My friend gave me a forged one for my B-Day two years ago. I made a leather cover for it. I recall...it was after seeing a picture of his hawk, I decided to check out their website. The prices of the Fort Turner hawks was great.....I figured, at that price I had nothing to loose. I am happy to report, that after some serious beating, she came through with flying colours.......and worth more than the asking price. It will ride my hip on all further trips to the wild. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Ive heard that the VietNam Hawk by CS is not realy good. On some reviews ive read it seems to be way to heavy and not a realy good thrower. Alot of ppl have reported that the heads fly off the handle and need to be apoxyed in and some other mods added to it. If you want a great combat grade hawk get the VTAC. http://www.cutleryshoppe.com/index.asp?P...h=GO&Page=1This site has the lowest price i have done alot of searching LOL. It was at 105usd now its 99 usd. U can also check ebay for them ive heard ppl getting them there for 90 or lower its rare but worth a shot. Its also gotten great reviews and our troops in the middle east are using the VTAC for breaching and other purposes.

I actually had that site bookmarked because it was the best price I'd seen on it. It does look pretty cool, just a little pricey.

That's for the wooden handeled hawks. He has a line of cord wrapped, all steel crash ax/entry tools as well that were much less expensive.

Justins wood handled hawk looks incredible. How much are they?
A guy on CGN(a canadian gun forum) did some really nice mods on a simple CS hawk and it looked fantastic. The best thing he did was strip that gawdafull black paint and gun blued it. Then a better handle with a bit of cord wrap and some blade reprofiling made it a much much better piece.

On Hawks: IMO It is unfair to compare the CS vietnam hawk to other traditional throwing hawks because it has a hammer handle and not a hawk handle. The handle will work lose where a hawk handle will either come off or get tighter due to design. I also think the CS vietnam hawk has an inherently weak handle at the head. It was designed as a self defense tool not as a leisurely thrower. I have heard the VTAC can be thrown all day without damage. I got one and tried it but felt the composite handle was too springy for my tastes. It does feal tough though. Fort Turner is on my list to try. I have heard they have thinner blades than my favorite which is H&B forge in my home state www.hbforge.com. I can personally recommend H&B as being super tough and economical just like Scrap Yard. Their Shawnee has been my favorite thrower for over 15 years. I will try to post some pics later.
Be prepared.......It is more than a motto it is a way of life.
