You know I hate to beat on the rotting horse again, but what is with that...dull blades?

None of my Rats were sharp enough for me. The only reason I've been able to think of is that perhaps they keep them a little on the dull side for inexperienced newbies who buy an "indestructible knife" to prevent them from damaging the edge (rolling, microchipping) by using a supersharp edge on a really hard surface to "test it", then trying to return it to the shop as "damaged".

Where-as an experienced knife owner would know to not use a straight razor sharp edge and, I dunno, cut another knife in half with it. An experienced knife owner should have no problem sharpening a knife to the level that they want it, without it being too sharp/too thin edged for the desired task. That's the best reason I can think of. To protect the dummies from themselves.

Kinda like when you give a kid a really dull pocket knife, and don't have to worry about him cutting himself with it, because by the time he's old enough to learn how to sharpen it, he's responsible enough to know how to use it.

Interesting quandry! Yet companies such as Becker and Cold Steel can ship blades shaving sharp. I wonder if they have a big problem with fraudulent returns ?!? Tom

right -- seems like they vary a little (one of my S6 shaves, the other doesn't), but mostly come with a "working" edge -- what i expected after reading the description -- very hard use knife geared to torturous use on very hard media... plus it seems a lot easier to make a thick edge more keen than to try to take out large dents/rolls (god forbid - chips!). just a thought...

We need a 5/16" (or thicker) SR-77 BOWIE!!! (Written back in early '07 -- Regulator Premonition?)

Andy - Keep checking eBay, as well as maybe post a message over at the Swamp. A few guys over there have sold extras of some models at little or no mark-up to fellow Rats. Good luck!

Yeah, the only problem is that I'm broke right now. Haven't found much to sell for a while.

That's what I do. Sometimes I'll hit 7 Goodwills in one day. And I go to the Salebarn auction every week.

Speakin' of lawnmowers, I was thinking last night...wouldn't it be great if Scrap Yard or Swamp Rat made lawnmover blades? They'd stay sharp forever and resist dings/chips from rocks. Maybe they should start a new company to make them...
