I have a mod I'm going to try on the Hook after I move, I'll let you know how it works.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I played around a little and it was a lot more effort than just stabbing the cap and prying. You can do it but it takes awhile 'cuz you have to line up with the cap "teeth" just right and it slips off the mark easily. With a file I'm pretty sure you could shape the underside of the hook to work more efficiently.

My Hook opens bottles just fine. Not much effort at all, neat to be able to do it too.

It is not a bottle opener it is for catching an opponents blade in a knife fight. It probably does not work much better than as a bottle opener though. I like how the hook feels on my thumb and how it looks. It also works for tucking the knife into a shash. Blades should'nt be used to cut through cinder block either, but if you got it, use it. I don't understand why you guys are having trouble with it as a bottle opener. That's one of the first things I did with when I got it, no mod or anything. Some of the crinkle coating came off on the first bottle, after that opens like a pro.

I bought a Yard Hook at Blade. Testing begins tonight. It may vary with the type of beer bottle. I am also going to test it on pop tops (could save a nail). Research is never finished. Aluminum penetration will be tested as well. Science can be fun!

I suspect you will need to get a represeantative sample in your testing so multiple empty beer cans are in order. I like those kinds of tests.

I just tried to open a Sam Adams with the Hook. On mine, the blade catch is too rounded to catch the crimp on the crown cap. Not off to a good start.

Not off to a good start. That was my problem too Vic...couldn't catch the teeth consistently with enough pressure. Must do more testing with different beer bottles
