My opinion only. I've thought about it and decided I would rather buy 7 SYK S6s instead of one of Bear Gryll's New Knife. I love the new particle steels but have found them to fracture with continued hard use (my cpm s30v 7" blade). These steels however are great in my smaller blades to keep an edge forever with normal use. Technology continues to improve though so I'll keep an open mind (as I buy 7 S6s!)

That RWL steel is supposed to be the latest greatest high-tech powdered stainless steel with superior toughness and edge-holding. Mighty expensive, though.
i read that it is a sweedish version of s30v or a little better. mabye it was wrong, but it didn't seem any better than s30v or zdp 189

Buying expensive powdered steel is like buying expensive powdered lemonade. Just dumb. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

It is a very well designed knife with a practical and innovative sheath.
I do think it is a lot more money than is reasonable for a survival knife.
The real "Woodlore" knife is very expensive as well. I would guess that it is more for fans of the series than serious outdoorsmen. I would consider S7 a better steel for a survival knife than the new powdered steels as they can be very hard to sharpen with even normal equipment much less a rock. I will not be trading in my SS4 anytime soon but I would like one of those horizontal sheaths for it.

RWL 34 is the Swedish version of CMP154 (not 154CM). It is a particle steel and is very good and very expensive. From another thread on another forum. It's selling points are the same as CMP154, very fine grain, great edge, tough stainless, etc. It is not sold as a super tough steel to compete with A2, Infi, 5160, etc. It is at the top end of stainless steels for overall "quaility". And priced so. It's claim to fame is to "one up" S30V. This information is based on other threads and so may or may not be complete.

One has to consider how often Bear gets into the water and wet not to choose stainless... but $700 is just too much!
